Stregheria, also known as La Vecchia Religione or Italian Witchcraft, has technically been around since approximately 1353. A woman named Aradia whom is also called the Holy Strega came to Earth (southern Europe to be exact) to share with the people of Italy the old ways.
It is a fascinating religion but severely similar to any other Wiccan religion. The main difference is that La Vecchia Religione is based on the teachings of Aradia and most of its legends and lore take palce in or around Italy. Despite the fact that Stregheria is technically Italian Witchcraft, you don't have to be Italian to practice it. The same goes for Celtic Wicca. You don't have to be Irish to be a Celtic practitioner.
Let's venture away from Stregheria and take a look at what ALL Wiccan religions have in common.
1. Dual polarity of Deity
2. Reincarnation
3. Respect for ALL
4. Immanence of Deity
5. Respect for the Earth Mother
6. The turning of the wheel and the changing of the seasons mark Sabbats (holidays)
7. Eight Sabbats, thirteen Esbats (full moons)
8. Wicca is a free choice religion
9. All Initiates are priests and priestesses
10. Equality of sexes and races
11. Magickal circle for worship and celebration
12. Education is valued and pursued
13. Wicca is counter-culture and somewhat underground
14. Satan is a Christian fallen angel and since Wicca is not a Christian sect of religion, we do nto believe in any such "devil"
