I'm just going to be straightforward about what I believe animal totems to be. In my experience, my animal totem has come to me in dreams when I need extra strength and encouragement. My animal totem is an Orca Whale. Sometimes during meditation she will show up or she will come during dreams and speak to me. Of course she speaks telepathically, it's not like she talks! When I'm with her I can go to the bottom of the ocean and I can feel the water against my face. It is an awesome experience.
Aside from my animal totem, I believe I have animal messengers. A hawk often comes to me during meditation and she will show up with I need validation. I also dream of riding on her wings.
A white dove has come to me in dreams and also during waking hours to relay messages. Again the messages are telepathic.
Your animal totem?
Your animal totem is probably your favorite animal or maybe one you dream of often. I also dream of a tiger. She comes to me a lot and I just pet her. Actually she sort of guides me through dreams. So I guess she sort of serves as a guide.
