My Observations on the Keyblades of the KH2FM+ Trailer

Here, you can find my assorted observations regarding the new Keyblades shown in the Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix + Secret Trailer. This page is quite graphic-heavy, and you may find it a bit redundant. To save those of us on dial-up connections, I have re-typed my captions and placed them here, along with some additional comments. So if it makes you feel better, you can simply hit 'stop', then view each image individually via either right clicking the image and clicking 'show image', or by clicking the link within the caption. (Note: Terra/The Enigmatic Soldier's Keyblade will not be discussed here; a clear image of this blade is available, and one can deduce from the fight and the sheer size that it is, physically, very powerful.)

We begin with Aqua's Keyblade.

Here we have the first image of Aqua's Keyblade in the original Kingdom Hearts 2 trailer. It's a pretty clear shot of the teeth of her Keyblade.

A close-up of Aqua's Keyblade. Note the lack of Keychain and the thin body of the weapon. The weapon doesn't look very heavy, and probably doesn't pack much physical punch.

Aqua casting a spell. Her Keyblade seems ideal for casting magic; we see her perform a powerful Blizzard spell (which the Dark Knight reciprocates), a powerful Thunder spell, and the pictured Reflega spell. If it's true, that her weapon is not physically powerful, then a large magic boost would seem appropriate for compensation.

Next, we'll have a look at Ven's Keyblade. There was only one shot where it was clearly visible, so this will be a short section.

Ven's Keyblade. Note the short, curved body and the odd position of the handle. Also note the winglike design of the teeth of his blade, reminiscent of Kingdom Hearts 1's Jungle King Keyblade.

(Also, in this shot, Ven appears to be left handed. Everyone else is shown to be right handed.)

Now, the Dark Knight's Keyblade.

Our first glimpse of the Dark Knight's Keyblade. In this shot, it is difficult to see anything, except that it is red and black, with white accents, just like his armor. (Many refer to this armor as 'Heartless Armor', since it is similar to the armor that Riku wears at the end of KH1. This is an expression: The Dark Knight is NOT a Heartless, as far as we can tell.)

More detail on the Dark Knight's Keyblade. It looks very much like it was designed after gears and/or fans. (It is still difficult to see in this shot, due to the watermark in the middle of the video.)

And finally, the Old Man's Keyblade.

The first glimpse of the Old Man's Keyblade. It looks very much like a chainsaw from this angle. The blade is wide, but hollow in the middle, similar to a few Keyblades that Sora has available to him (namely Hero's Crest).

A shot of the teeth of the Old Man's Keyblade. Keeping with the woodcutting theme that seems to surround his weapon, the teeth look similar to an axehead; there aren't any discernable teeth, like on the other's Keyblades, and in that sense is like several of Sora's Keyblades, such as Fenrir, Sleeping Lion, Fatal Crest, Hidden Dragon, and others with protrusions at the end lending the blade it's signature key shape rather than actual teeth, such as Terra's.

Our first clear view of the Old Man's Keyblade. Many have commented on its appearance, saying that it looks like a combination of Ultima Weapon/Oathkeeper and Oblivion.

Hopefully, these images and my thoughts will be helpful in future discussion.
