                                                                                      An introduction.

                                                                             My name is Steve Gregory

I am the 3 times UK match fishing champion and 1999 Browning Pole Masters Champion, my company Miracle Baits manufact

ures and distributes fishing baits to the trade since 1997.  We are based in Lincolnshire after moving from Sheffield last year, a wise move but I miss all my good friends.

I am a consultant and also sponsored by MAP, the leading fishing tackle company with some of the best fishing tackle available in the UK.

Most of my fishing is done on commercial fisheries these days, that's not to say I can't fish canals or rivers, I was brought up fishing on these and still have the occasional fling.

One of the fisheries I frequent these days is MOON LAKES at Tattershall, this is a fantastic fishery that is up and coming. I think it has the potential of being one of the best fisheries around these parts, and I'm sure it will be shortly.  I have had a catch of over 220lb of carp from 12oz to 6lb on Manor lake, there are carp to 14lb at present in this lake.  I will be doing a profile on MOON LAKES as well as other fisheries in the area so keep checking!

Fishing has become a major part of my life, "I have a very understanding wife"      I like to get out and fish matches whenever possible, pleasure fishing does not really appeal to me, I only really do it to learn about new lakes and to experiment with different baits and techniques.  Everybody has different ideas of what fishing should be, and all of them are correct to that person so don't knock it, just do your own thing.

I am not really an ambitious person I tend to plod along just enjoying life, after all there is only one shot, at it and if you don't enjoy what you have while you are here then what's the point.

On this site I will be offering my products for sale to the trade and to the general public, I will also be doing features on different fisheries and giving my honest opinion on many things, some people may not agree with my views but that's what life is about, variety.

Miracle Paste mixing instructions made easy

I have been asked to explain the way I mix my paste to achieve  the best results, I will explain how I personally do it, however that does not mean it is wrong to do it any other way.  I will be adding a video clip in the near future to help but for now here goes.

It may seem quite difficult initially to get it right first attempt, but it comes natural after a few attempts.

Firstly get a suitable mixing bowl, it is better to have a round bowl than a square bait tub until you get the hang of things. Cut the packet top and put the paste powder into the bowl, just saving a small amount back in case of accidents.  Add cold water (from the tap is fine, you don't need pond water) and vigorously mix with your fingers (slightly open)  until the paste is sloppy, not watery but nearly. Don't be afraid it will look a lot too wet at first, this is how it should be initially. You will need to mix it well and you will notice it start to thicken up very quickly, it soon becomes putty like and will form into a ball at this stage.  When it has formed a ball, pick it up and start to knead it in your hands, if at this stage it is still really wet just add a small amount of the remaining powder, this will rectify the problem.  As you knead it, it will stiffen up even more, keep kneading for about a minute until it becomes like soft putty, if too stiff, add water at this stage or it will not mix correctly.  It can now be used giving excellent results, BUT the next stage is the most important and takes it to a different level.

Place the ball of paste into a plastic bag and tie the top, nothing too small it needs to be big enough to massage the paste while inside, and place the bag of paste into cold place, ie fridge or garage floor.  Over night or better still over the next 2 days the paste will totally change in texture, keep massaging the ball when you get chance and this makes it smoother and makes the binder work it's magic.

I personally leave it for at least 2 days before using it, but I often used it after a week without refrigeration, it may start to smell then but the fish seem to find this irresistible. The paste can be frozen at any stage, when you have some left at the end of the day for instance or when it has stood for a couple of days, divide into smaller balls put into plastic bags and flatten to make pancakes. This makes it quicker to thaw, the balls take much longer and you may find the fish demand it faster than it is thawing.

I  hope this throws a little light on the matter and know that you will like the Miracle Paste, it has a pedigree second to none, you will not need to add any flavours or anything else to improve it, the fish like it just the way it is.

I would suggest feeding 2.3mm sinking pellet (soaked) and 4mm expander pellets with just a small lump of paste in a kinder pot until the weather improves a little (April/May) time. The paste will stay on the hook as long as you leave it in the water without lifting it, that is if the fish don't get it, it is designed to pull off when the rig is lifted or on the bite.  A confidence booster is to fill a jam jar with cold water and drop in a lump of paste on a rig into it, make sure it is touching the bottom and leave it without disturbing it.  Keep checking it, overnight too and see what happens, the paste will bleed but stay attached to the hook until you lift the line. That is what happens in the lake, so you will then know it is on and don't need to lift and check.

I have so much confidence in the paste I use it all through the winter with devastating results, most people don't use it because they were told "you can't catch on paste in winter"  this just leaves the door open for you, so give it a try.

RECOMMENDED RIGS

I prefer to use a substantial float, 4 feet and over .5g or .75g bulk shotted with number 8 shots about 12 to 18 inches from the hook with no dropper shots, 0.16 line minimum and a size 12 (proper one not one that looks like a 22) eyed hooks are great for paste as they help to grip the paste. I do not think that using the paste to cock the float is correct, this is unnecessary and is used usually by people who do not have confidence in their paste. When you get a bite on paste you don't very often get a lift bite, it's usually gone and buried and the fish is on  I can never understand why people use sloppy paste and keep striking it off to feed, the less time in the water means less chance of bites, also when you feed with a kinder pot it's all there at the same time, if they don't want much just cut back.  One other thing the elastic needs to be set according to the venue you are fishing but remember paste usually attracts bigger fish than other baits, BE WARNED!

I hope that this helps you make your days fishing special, it has done wonders for many anglers and given them biggest ever catches.  Don't be disappointed if you don't always catch well, that's fishing and fish have the ability to swim so are not always in your peg, it does not matter how good baits are they can't catch fish that are not there
