Mindlen Terriers
A Small Show Kennel Situated in the Scottish Borders
Mindlen History
Mindlen Kennel was established in 1968 by Mrs Anne Murray and her husband Steve. The dogs were primarily working terriers as Steve 
was a game keeper. In the summer months when the dogs were not working the Murrays loved to show the dogs at Hunt and Working Terriers shows. They used to travel relatively long distances to shows and went annually to the Great Yorkshire Show in 1975 one of their best working bitches Snowy became the Champion Terrier at this show (pictured right).
Anne and Steve were very good friends of my mother and father and when they had a litter of puppies I was really tempted to have one and did so not that my mum and dad were very pleased but they really warmed to her and she was part of the family. Her name was Minden Smudge she was a pure white rough coated bitch she was a full sister to Minden Tess (pictured left) who was Best in Show at the first Parson Russell Terrier Show. When I finally moved into my own property the dog came too.
Shortly after that I bought another dog for the Murrays, Minden Sam (pictured right) he was a smooth tri coloured dog who was not the easiest to live with but he taught me lot about the temperament of terriers and how to handle them. I eventually had a litter from Sam and Smudge and kept a bitch puppy, we called her Suzie.
Soon after Kennel Club recognition happened both Anne and I tried for seperate affixes but she was not allowed Minden and I was not allowed Raeburn so we decided to apply for a joint Affix and we were granted Mindlen. Looking for a stud dog we came across Ridley robber who belonged to Isobel Morrison of the Belmorr Kennel and liking his fantastic temperament and beautiful head we decided to use him on Suzie.
We had a beautiful litter of 5 puppies 2 bitches and 3 dogs Anne kept a dog Mindlen Hairy Minnow
and a bitch Mindlen Mizpah (pictured left) who went to the Crawfords who lived in Fife, both of these dogs were campaigned very successfully over the years and Hairy minnow is behind a lot of successful dogs in the rings today. (Pictured right is Raeburn Suzi with Hairy Minnow and Mosquito) Hairy Minnow was the first Parson to gain a Junior Warrant and Mosquito was the first bitch to do the same thing. Hairy Minnow was also the first Parson to win a Best In Show at a Open All Breed Show.
Being so pleased with the first litter we decide to use Ridley Robber again this time we had 4
puppies I kept a bitch from this litter Mindlen Mosquito (pictured right) and Anne ran a dog on Mindlen Hoolet after a while a home came up for Hoolet (pictured right)and we decided to let him go to a pet home but we kept an eye on his development, on seeing how nice he was we approached his owner Gladys Philp to see if she would be interested in showing him and when she said yes we were delighted. Ch Mindlen Hoolet of Muhlross or Toby to his friends has made a real big impression on the breed being the first and only Parson in the UK to have won the Terrier Group at a General Championship Show. 
In 1995 a daughter of Hairy Minnow, Howlbeck Matuka Mindlen (pictured below), who was bred by the late George Simpson out of Howlbeck Pebbles, was Best of Breed at Crufts. To say I was speechless was no exageration! After this she was Best In Show at the Parson Club Show and went on to a very successful career in the show ring, she just loved to show and was a natural show off, the junior handlers used to love to get her for competitions.
From her first litter she bred Nordic Champion bitch Mindlen Whisky Fly who lives in Norway with Lena Kjempengren. In her thrid litter she produce Mindlen Jenny Spinner who was a successful brood bitch and Ch/Am Ch MIndlen Muddler Minnow. Matuka is behind most of the Parsons I own today shE sady passed away in February 2009
