Manchester's Global Music Station

Here at MiM Radio, we currently have two main DJs, a studio regular and also a guest DJ. This page contains all of the info about our current 'On-Air' staff.

First, our main show, which features:

Matt is the owner/editor/webmaster/co-host here on MiM Radio.

Matt has a Ba(hons) in English and a Master's Degree in Creative Writing. He has written for a number of regional, national and international music/sport/entertainment publications, and has run Manchester is Music since January 2006. Although that does feel like a lifetime ago to him, he's incredibly proud of what has been achieved with the website and is one of Manchester's biggest proponents of unsigned bands. Although radio was something Matt never thought he would do, when the opportunity presented itself to bring new Manchester bands to a worldwide audience, he felt it was too good a chance to miss. In addition to co-writing and co-hosting the Matt and Monkey show, Matt and Monkey are also working on a number of creative side projects together that they hope to push forward in 2009.

Monkey is the co-host of Manchester is Music radio

Monkey first forced himself into our lives at the dawn of MiM, way back in January 2006, and he has been a fixture on the site ever since. When Matt fell ill, Monkey took the reins of the site and caused absolute chaos, but it was here that his creative juices really flowed, and the world saw him for the first time as the hampered, unhinged creative genius that he really is. Since then, Monkey has become a valuable part of the furniture - like an old wicker chair that your gran gave you that you can't get rid of because you know its worth something, and you're scared that if you sell it its value will go up and you'll have been ripped off. Anyway, when MiM Radio came to pass in summer 2007, Monkey first contributed to the show with his brilliant 'Monkey Learns' sketch, before elbowing his way into the co-host's chair, where he has remained ever since. We love him really.

Grilla spends every month as our 'Studio Guest', and is a vital part of the MiM Radio experience

Although not a part of the original MiM team, indie drummer Grilla has become a valued part of Manchester is Music over the years. Initially shy to take part in the live broadcasts, Grilla has since grown in confidence and is now an integral part of many regular sketches and features. With that said, we still think the best is yet to come from Grilla. 'You haven't seen anything yet', as they say.

'Rocking John Cron' - Guest DJ

John Cronnolley joined MiM Radio in October 2008 and is a completely different arm of the team. Having spent many years helping to hammer the famous radio ship, Ross Revenge (www.rossrevenge.co.uk/) into shape (Ross Revenge is the boat that became home to the world famous offshore station, Radio Caroline (www.radiocaroline.co.uk), in 1983. The ship since fell into a sad state of disrepair, but is now being brought back to life by a fantastic team of volunteers), John finally took up a spot behind the live broadcast desk in Summer 2008 and fell in love with the role. Now, 'Rocking John Cron' comes to Manchester is Music with his new show, 'Dadrock and Dance', which is an absolute eye-opener for many music fans. We're glad to have him aboard.

'The Soul Guy' Rob Jones - Guest DJ

Celebrating Manchester's unique and diverse musical history, as always, it is our pleasure to bring you 'The Soul Guy' on our airwaves - a certified Manchester music legend, if ever there was one! His show brings us some classic Northern Soul, and is a real lesson in music for all of us. We're thrilled to have a legend of this calibre on the station, and we're sure you will be too! Oh, and you can email The Soul Guy by clicking HERE if you've any requests, any questions about Northern Soul rarities, or just wanna reminisce about the original days of All Nighters!

Get Well Soon, John

MiM Radio's own Rockin' John Cron has been very poorly recently, and is currently fighting a very brave battle against cancer. We're sure the entire MiM Radio family of fans, friends and co-workers will join us in wishing John a speedy recovery, and we're glad to say that we'll still have John's fantastic shows on the site whilst he's currently in hospital, as he has recorded them several months in advance.

Get well soon mate - you're in our thoughts and prayers.

Matt and the MiM Team xx
