FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

"O.k., so what's the difference between airsoft and scenario airsoft?"

The difference is this.  Airsoft is simply the name of the game.  Airsoft can be as simple as taking a bunch of guys and putting airsoft guns in their hands and sending them out into the woods to shoot each other all day long.  Be it with teams or every man for himself.  This is typically known as airsoft skirmishing.  Scenario airsoft on the other hand is where the game truly gets interesting and in our opinion...fun!

The biggest defining features of our scenario airsoft games are:

1.  Single or multiple objectives that may either be simple or complex in their scope that each side of the scenario has to complete.

2.  Role-playing specific "characters" to support the plot of the scenario game.

3.  The game has some sort of a plot to it as the scenario develops.

4.  The game has props or objects that are used, other than just airsoft weapons..

Another name for scenario airsoft is "milsim" which is of course short for military simulation.

Basically it all boils down to a scenario game being a big, adult version of playing make-believe war with rules that allows the individual player and team with an imagination the ability to immerse themselves in a simulation of a military or para-military operation.  They get to be the good guys that try to save the day or the bad guys that are hell-bent on getting their way or else.  Often times, more often than in the movies, the bad guys come out on top.

Scenario Airsoft or MilSim does not necessarily mean non-stop action either.  Some scenarios require recon team to avoid contact all together and just retrieve some intelligence. For the right kind of players this can be just as exciting as a firefight.

Scenario Airsoft is not for everyone.  There are those players that prefer to just engage in skirmishes and leave it at that.  But there are many players out there that desire something more, something more immersive and enjoyable.  That is where Victoria MILSIM comes in.

In different parts of the world, airsoft players and teams differ radically from each other as the guide below indicates.

MilSim: Imitation of real military equipment and uniforms to create realistic atmosphere.
Hardcore MilSim: Close simulation of real military. Realism in all levels is the purpose of the exercise.

Recreational: The guys who are going for plinking and drinking.
Competitive: People who want to compete and win against other teams.

Re-enactment: Imitation of current or past wars and battles with as real propping as possible.
Training: Folks that use airsoft as training tool for real life operations. Although limited, it is happening among some law enforcement circles.

MilSim Airsoft: It's a game, not a test of your manhood. If you think it is a test, you probably won't like your grade.

What is Victoria Milsim?

Do you guys campout all night?

Yes sometimes there is camping overnight, but not often. If we don't camp we usually return around 12 midnight.

If I want to join may I ask a friend to join too?

Sure, if there is availability.

My parents just dont understand what it is?

Have them read this website, especially this FAQ section. Other than that it's just a bunch of guys playing army.

My parents want to come and see what its all about, is that possible?

Our AO, area of operation, does not permit observers. When we play we are both our own actors and audience. Observers are a distraction and takes away from the realism we try to achieve. However, sometimes we use volunteers to play 'non-combatants' as part of the scenario such as POWs, hostages, correspondents, etc.

Parental concern tells us that they care about you and your activity. We understand and encourage that.

We suggest they read the website, read this FAQ section, email us here with questions. We do whatever we can to help them understand.

How physical is milsim?

There is minimal physical contact. You may become exhausted from walking or running and the humidity will factor in as well. Just keep hydrated and you should be just fine.

Is it dangerous out there?

It's not dangerous; just use caution and common sense as you would in any wilderness area.
As for MILSIM airsoft events; Airsoft bb pellets can certainly cause injury if shot at a close range.  We strongly advise every participant to wear full mask goggles for protection while eye protection is a MUST in all our events. But as a parent, you should still expect a few bumps, bruises and scratches on him/her.

What kind of people takes part in these events?

Our members include active duty, reserve and former military, professionals, business people, students, men and women alike, who all enjoy the camaraderie and chance to get outside and enjoy MILSIM airsoft.

Is Airsoft a new sport/activity?

Airsoft has a relatively long history. It was first designed and marketed here in the United States about 30 years ago by a major air gun company. airsoft was created with a purely recreational application in mind. As airsoft evolved, manufacturers added another important feature. By modeling airsoft after world famous pistols and rifles an entire line of replicas were created. Over several generations of product development and constant improvement, AirSoft is better than ever. Adding to airsoft's hobby and sport games market, airsoft has created new uses in firearm safety, law enforcement training and movie & theatrical productions. Many police officers/ departments and firearm safety instructors choose airsoft over other options to obtain realistic training without the inherent danger.
