MILLOM MODEL RAILWAY EXHIBITION 2008

Sponsored by The UK's Largest Train Operating Company

The exhibition took place at Millom Network Centre on Saturday 6th & Sunday 7th September 2008.  Thanks to our sponsors Northern Rail, CGP Millom Trust Fund, QinetiQ & UKAEA, along with numerous local traders the show was a major success.

Visitor figures were up and everyone seemed to enjoy this new format show in a new venue with lighting that showed the models to thier full potential.  Many thanks to the public for supporting our show, we hope to see you in September 2010.  We promise to provide new layouts from afar once more as you have shown us that this town can support a good model railway exhibition.  If you visited this time, please tell your friends or club colleagues and bring them next time.  If not, please come along and see just how much the Millom show has improved.

It's all over once again and two year's planning passes by with a whizz so I hope that the photos below give you an idea of how good this show really was and how good the venue is.

Finally, we would love to hear your comments regarding the 2008 Exhibition, whether good or bad.  Constructive criticism is always useful.  Please use the link here to tell us what you feel about the show, new venue, parking etc...

WORKING LAYOUTS

Martin busy working on the beautiful Bryn Y Fedw by David Bird of Lytham St. Annes MRC

Rowan (our youngest member) and his new helper on Dalton.  Looks like Dave Hampson may need a new side kick on Oldham King St?

Robin Williams concentrates whilst operating his N Gauge layout, Fifield

More concentration as the lads on Great Endon keep thier intensive service on schedule!

Shunting manoeuvres on Kevin Smith's superbly scenic layout, Midsomer Mardy.  This is Z Gauge!!!  The layout went on to win the Vic Simpson Memorial Shield for the layout chosen by the public as Best in Exhibition 2008.

PEOPLE, FACES & AWARDS

Millom Railway & Scale Modellers President, Alyn Davies, shares a laugh with our camera(woman) Rebecca Chesher.  Alyn's mood summed up the weekend for our club.  The event was a major success and we were all smiles by Saturday evening, especially after the few beers with our visiting exhibitors!  It was well worth the effort after all the worry of recent weeks...

Club Treasurer, Maurice Chapelhow, discusses the finer points of making scenery on a budget (typical treasurer)wth an interested visitor.

An emotional Margaret Simpson presents a pleasantly surprised and happy Kevin Smith of Askam with 'The Vic Simpson Memorial Shield' for his superb Z Gauge layout "Midsomer Mardy"....

....Then is presented with a bouquet of flowers by Pauline Chesher, watched by Peter Chesher (Chairman) & Maurice Chapelhow (Treasurer).  Thank You Margaret, we understand how difficult it was for you to attend a Model Railway Exhibition so soon and sincerely appreciate your efforts on Sunday afternoon.

The crew on Great Endon (Carl Bowden & Preston MRS) are obviously enjoying the show, either that or Carl has promised free beer for the next few weeks?

I'm not too sure about the pose Gordon but the N Gauge Layout, Red Mountain Railroad is excellent!  Gordon Russell of Barrow at this year's show.

Steve and Len from Lancaster City Models sharing a joke with our female camera crew, probably slagging her Dad off!  Only joking, these are great people who also support our shows and our club.  Nice people to do business with!

Both Red Mountain Railroad and Fifield were real crowd pleasers, especially with the children due to the interactive aspects.  The owners of these layouts allowed children to operate them and drew the crowds all weekend.  Here Cara Williams explains how to control the trains whilst Robin Williams points out an item of interest to the kids around thier N Gauge layout, Fifield.
