The Milliken Messenger strives to help various charities. So far we have donated money to both Cancer Research UK and Macmillan Cancer Relief. This is a bit of information about the charities and links to their sites.
Cancer Research UK
"Cancer Research UK's vision is to conquer cancer through world class research.
"We are the largest volunteer-supported cancer research organisation in the world and we support the work of 3,000 scientists working across the UK.
"Our annual scientific spend is more than £191 million, which is raised almost entirely through public donations. "
Macmillan Cancer Relief
"Macmillan Cancer Relief is a UK charity that works to improve the quality of life for people living with cancer.
"Each and every day 747 people in the UK are told they have cancer. There are now over a million people living with cancer in the UK and, if current trends continue, more than five million will be diagnosed between now and 2020.
"Macmillan offers life support by providing the expert care and practical support that makes a real difference to people living with cancer. We offer a range of innovative cancer services and are at the heart of improving cancer care throughout the UK."
Marie Curie Cancer Care (Inca Trail)
"Every year the charity provides care to around 30,000 cancer patients and their families - entirely free of charge.
"In the community, high-quality Marie Curie nursing gives terminally ill people the choice of dying at home, supported by their families. While at our 10 Marie Curie Hospices, we actively promote quality of life for patients and again provide much needed support for their carers."
Inca Trail
"Travel back in time to the ancient civilisation of the Inca Empire on the Inca trail, the most famous trek on the Latin American continent.
"See the world famous lost city of Machu Picchu, and the sacred valleys and picturesque towns and villages of the Andes. Walk among the lush vegetation of the lower rainforest, climb through the high cloud forest and cross the snow line on the highest pass.
"Walking from one beautiful ruin to the next, you will be surrounded by views of the magnificent Andes - a truly unforgettable experience."
