Personal Profile:I've been described as the "brains" of the TMNT. I suppose that's because I'm fairly studious and industrious. I've become a reasonable "Mr. Fix-It." I can repair just about anything, and I'm also fortunate to have a knack for inventing gadgets and machines. Of the four TMNT, I suppose that I'm the most reserved. I tend to be a little too preoccupied with my own thoughts, but I think that I'm still very attentive to my family and friends' needs. It's hard not to get lost in thought, though! I'm working on it. There's just so much to do, it's sometimes hard to make time for everything.

I'd rather talk things out than fight, making me an unlikely combination of a Ninja warrior/pacifist. Unfortunately, in our lives, it's rare when talking things out is an option.

I long for the days when I can work in peace on my inventions and explore genetics and mutation in depth, minus all of the violent distractions provided by our various enemies. Some day I'll have the time that I need.

In the 2007 movie, Donatello runs an IT tech support line to earn money for the family. He has a more confrontational relationship with Raphael, angry that the latter was not pulling his weight to support them, as a family and as a team member, when in actuality Raphael was moonlighting as the Nightwatcher. This disagreement is further explained in the prequel comics by the fact that Donatello does not trust Nightwatcher, because no one knows what side he is really on, and because he uses fear to accomplish his ends. Donatello states that Raphael uses many of the same tactics, and hints that perhaps he knows what his brother really does at night. Donatello also tries to guide Michelangelo away from the idea that vigilantes are heroes. Such action develops Donatello as an older brother, forced to be the responsible one in Leonardo's absence and teach his brothers what Leo would in his place.

Personal Profile:I try to be the leader of the team, since someone has to be and I'm the only one who seems to be interested in order. It's often frustrating to choreograph tactics only to see them disappear in an emotional outburst from one of my brothers.

I take Ninjitsu very seriously, as it should be. As it must be. Ninjitsu is not a game!

I train diligently and read up on strategy to better prepare my family for times of duress. I've been accused of being too stringent in my expectations, but I don't agree with that assessment. I'm not striving to be perfect, only perfectly proficient. Perhaps when we are out of imminent danger, I will relax, but a proper ninja is ALWAYS prepared, and always three steps ahead of any nemesis. That takes hard work and dedication.

I love my family more than life itself, so I feel responsible to ensure their protection. Master Splinter is very capable of taking care of himself, but my brothers worry me. I feel that I must be there to compensate for their lack of focus. I guess this may seem a little hard-nosed, but if you were in my shoes, I think you'd agree that someone has to play the "heavy."

With that aside, I do realize the need for fun and relaxation. While I often disagree with Raphael, he is my brother, and I enjoy the times that we spend goofing off. I just wish that he'd try to see things from some other perspective than his own (something he no doubt says about me as well!)

My favorite times are at dinner, when the five of us sit together and listen to Master Splinter tell stories and teach lessons.

In the Fourth TMNT film, Leo was sent away by Master Splinter to hone his skills in becoming a more efficient leader after Shredder's defeat. April finds him in Central America, and while he was hesitant to return to New York, he does at the right time to take on the dangerous new force of evil. His relationship with Raphael is strained due to Raphael feeling abandoned by Leo as well as feeling less loved and respected by Splinter. Leonardo's vision of the world is perhaps also wider than Raphael's; in the first movie prequel comic, Leo becomes angry with Raphael for trying to leave them in order to save a man from being mugged, because there are four heavily armed triceratons in the sewers who could cause devastation to the city. He becomes further angered when Raphael deserts them mid-battle to help the old man get home safely. This conflict suggests that the two brothers operate on different levels of morality, though neither is necessarily wrong. Raphael states in the comic that he was tired of waiting for disaster to fall on his family, and tired of fighting aliens while people in their own neighborhood are being mugged and murdered. Leonardo, on the other hand, believes that the world of men is the responsibility of the police, while utroms and triceratons are their domain, and that they should fight only when there is no one else who could solve the problem. This also engages Leo in a contradiction when he stays in Central America, using violence to fight local lawlessness and effectively deserting his brothers because he believes, as Raphael believes, that others need him more. Such parallels suggest that the two brothers are experiencing the same inner-battle, albeit in very different locales and using different tactics. Both must also, in their turn, return in the way of the prodigal son and stand before their sensei/father with humility, accepting their failure to solve their own (and the world's) problems by themselves. In the TMNT CGI movie, Raphael challenges Leonardo after arguing of their own individual sense of justice and the reasons for their actions. Raphael almost kills Leo, then retreats unable to believe what he almost did. Leonardo is captured by the War Generals and Foot Clan but is rescued by his family later before the final battle where Leonardo and Raphael finally resolve their differences, Raphael accepting Leo as their leader while Leonardo confesses to needing Raphael.

It's a dog-eat-dog world, and I'm a Big Dog... but I lie low unless somebody gets my back up. I don't start 'em, I finish 'em. I'm out of cliches... but those sum me up nicely.

I'm pretty anti-social and short-tempered, I admit. Most people just get on my nerves. I like to leave-alone and be left alone. If more people were like me, I think things would be better off. I know I'd be better off!

guess I need to learn how to relax. To find my "center," as Splinter sez. I'm workin' on it. Sometimes I envy Mikey his good-natured temperment. Sometimes I think I'd like to be that way. Sometimes...

The saying goes "Ignorance is bliss"... as I grow older, I'm trying to grow wiser... kind of a contradiction, innit?

At the start of the 2007, CGI sequel TMNT, Raphael, growing increasingly frustrated and violent, has become a masked vigilante, the Nightwatcher, going to the surface at night and fighting crime in very brutal fashions. Leonardo confronts him in his Nightwatcher disguise, and toys with Raphael who, using the manriki, is not a match for Leonardo. Leonardo knocks off his mask with an uppercut and then, seeing its Raphael, starts to lecture him. He and Leonardo then come to blows over this and in a bout of focused rage he breaks Leonardo's ninjikens and pins him to the ground, his eyes showing bitter hatred as if he was going to kill his brother. Leo's staring causes him to snap out of it and retreat, unable to bear what he nearly done. After Leo is kidnapped by the War Generals and Foot Clan, Raphael returns to the lair. Here, it's stated that some of his jealousy towards Leonardo is because he was the apparent favored son of Splinter; after Splinter assures him that he is just as valued as all his brothers, he effectively leads the turtles (joined by Splinter, April and Casey) in a rescue, giving Leo a new pair of swords to replace the ones he destroyed in their fight, effectively "handing off the baton" to his brother and accepting him as leader.

Donatello was also angered by Raphael's personality, complaining that Raph wasn't pulling his weight around and does little to support the family and the team. This was explained earlier in the movie where Don and Raph argued. Like Leonardo, Donatello also disliked the Nightwatcher, because he wasn't sure who's side he's on.

However, Michelangelo looks up to Raphael and is a huge fan of the Nightwatcher.

Splinter describes Raphael as passionate, strong, loyal to a fault, and someone who takes on the burdens of the world, who would make a great leader.
