| A very effective mod for 10mm thick perspex |
|
To complete this mod, you will need: 1- 10mm thick perspex 2- A clamp 3- 5mm blue LED's (you can use green or red or even a mixture but make sure you use a bright/super bright one otherwise it may not work) 4- A soldering iron and a bit of solder 5- A drill and 5mm drill bit 6- A length of wire 7- Resistors (330 ohms should do if using the 5v rail on your power suply, you will need one for every LED)
What to do Once you have your plastic cut to the desired shape (square or rectangle would be easiest): 1) set your drill up 2) clamp your plastic so the 10mm thick edge is facing up 3) cut holes in the plastic on 10mm thick edge for the LED's (try to drill straight*, about 7-10mm deep and space your holes evenly) 4) drill holes in each of the 4 sides for best effect 5) insert the LED's in the drilled holes 6) solder a resistor to each positive leg of the LED (the longer leg, without the flat part)** 7) solder a strand of wire straight across all the LED's so they are joined up, connect this wire to the 5v pin on the molex connector 8) do the same with the negative side, connect this to one of the GND (black) pins
Notes *- you could try drilling diagonal holes for a different effect **- please see my notes for LED's if you are unsure - I do not have a picture of this mod and i cant find it now so i cannot give you any examples, but the one i saw used blue and red LED's there was a switch to control which LED's were on (i.e. blue only, red only or red and blue- this gave a purplish effect and looked really good) - Take care when doing this mod, turn off and un-plug your computer when connecting the LED's to the molex connector - I cannot be held responsible for any damage/injuries encountered by you from trying this or any other mod/technique on this site.
