This Year's Eurovision Song Contest was held in the Skonto Arena in Riga (below), Latvia. 26 countries participated in the competition and the night was full of colour, style and some catchy tunes.
Ireland's entry was pickey through a type of 'Pop Idol' system. Auditions were held around the country and after many gruelling weeks, Mickey Jo Hartefrom Lifford, Co. Donegal was picked to represent Ireland. He sang a song 'We've Got The World' written by Keith Molloy and Martin Brannigan (pictured below) and performed brilliantly.
However, Turkey's song sung by Sertab Erener (below left) her dance moves and the colourful costumes seemed to win the votes of the Europeans and they came first with 167 points. The Belgian song was quite good in our opinion and TatU the controvesial Russian lesbians (below right)came third.
Ireland recieved 53 points and came Joint eleventh. We will definetely be straight through to the Grand Final next year, meaning they won't have to first qualify. Mickey did Ireland proud!!! Well done!
