A Citizen for Senator is someone who is focused on Maryland families, supports responsible growth, and believes in local small businesses.
If you had an employee who had spent 16 years on the job and failed in almost every assignment, would you rehire that person?
For most of us, the answer would be a resounding "No." Yet, that is the record Senator Larry E. Haines has amassed during 16 years in the Maryland Senate.
Larry Haines loves to blame the Democrats for his failures. Yet, his ineffectiveness was best demonstrated when his fellow Republican Senators stripped him of his party leadership post.
Thats why Michelle Jefferson is running for the State Senate. She wants to retire Maryland's "do nothing" Senator and replace him with a dynamic, energetic, caring candidate who will fight for the 5th District.
Jefferson's agenda:
People: The voice of the People should always be heard, never ignored.
Responsible Growth: Can be achieved with proper planning and community involvement.
School Construction: Work to obtain our fair share of the money to lessen the impact of forward funding to build our schools.
Water: Is quickly becoming scarce. We need solutions in place to ensure we have long-term economic health and viability.
Infrastructure Ahead of Growth: Build the roads and schools before growth arrives, not afterward.
Taxes: It's time to start looking at unfunded mandates and eliminating ineffective state sponsored programs
Working with, not against local government.
Representing all citizens in Annapolis.
Regaining citizen trust in the political process.
Planning for now and our future.
Views and Opinions
Gun Control: The right to bear arms should be a right for each and every law abiding citizen of this country. If law makers were serious about curbing gun crimes, they would go after the criminals. Gun laws only restrict law abiding citizens. Having to retreat instead of defend is absurd. My family is proud to have a life membership with NRA.
Abortion: Personally, I am against abortion.
Illegal Immigration: Illegal is illegal, no matter how one tries to dress it up with feel good words such as undocumented. This problem has become a drain on our economy, burdening our schools and has reintroduced illnesses that were once eradicated in this country.
I do not agree with providing in-state or free tuition nor do I agree with allowing anyone who is here illegally to have a drivers license or be able to collect social security benefits.
Gay Marriage: Marriage is between one man and one woman.
I do understand the economic impact facing same sex couples and believe that there can a compromise to lessen or eliminate that impact.
Can civil unions be the catch all answer? Only if the emotional aspect is left at the door and trip wires are not inserted when crafting the legislation to grant civil unions.
Child Sex Offenders: This is an illness that escapes most rational thinking. I’m not convinced that one can be ‘cured’ or treated. Harsher penalties should and can be imposed.
Registration and community notification are a must. Offenders should face additional prison time if they do not comply and not be given multiple chances to do so.
