Michelle Jefferson was elected to the Carroll County Republican Central Committee in November 2002, serving until October 2004 as its chairperson and has been an active member of the Republican Women's Club of Carroll County and the Maryland Federation of Republican Women.

As a political activist, she has spearheaded a successful petition drive to overturn current delegation's breakout of the five commissioner districts, an arrangement which was approved by the voters.

Since 1987. she's owned and operated a successful local business providing permit services to commercial clients.
