Detailed Plot:
Michael J Fox plays a very annoying actor by the name of Nick Lang. He is the only one who wants to get out of his young-boyish image and he wants to get the part of a hard-nosed cop in his next movie. He teams up with John Moss who is played by James Woods. He is a very tough cop who just wants to get on with his job on, searching for The Party Crasher, a serial killer.
Nick Lang wants to work with John Moss so that he can research what it is like to be a cop. John is not happy with this arrangement seen as nobody told him about it. Moss thinks that he has been palmed of with a babysitting job. Nick is trying his hardest to learn what it's like to become a real cop and Moss just wants him to go away. It is very funny when Nick trys to give John romance advice with Susan. Also when Nick is copying every single thing that John is doing such as eating the same as him (hot dogs), and John just kicks off!
John Moss is searching for the serial killer so Nick has to tag along. Susan becomes fond of Nick and believes that he is a real cop. One day when John gets so sick of Nick just following him around trying to copy everything he does, he ties Lang to the bed so he can't come with him. After that fails to get rid of him he sets up a plan.
John leaves Nick alone with the car and orders him to stay there, knowing he wouldn't do as he was told. He hears that there is trouble and goes up to play the hero. He shoots someone, but it turns out to be an innocent person! Nick starts to worry and he panics, he feels very guilty. John says that he will take the rap for it because he has less to loose than Nick has. So he tells Nick to go back to where he came from and everything will be okay. So Nick leaves.
Nick decides to come back to confess and he finds the man he 'killed' laughing with friends. Nick works out that he was set up and he is really mad with Moss.
The Party Crasher then kidnaps Susan, and Nick Lang realises this. They go after him and Nick, playing the hero again, puts his own life at risk by trying to save Susan from falling off the Billboard featuring him. Whilist John is fighting with the Party Crasher.

When Michael J Fox is pretending to be Susan in the pub, and he turns around when John Moss has called him 'Susan' if you look closely at his face, he looks as though he is about to burst out laughing, before he replies 'Yes John'
In the scene where the cop car chasing the tow truck does a complete flip in the air, a roll bar is clearly seen where there was none before. In the following scene, it's gone!
Trivia:
This film was LL Cool J's screen debut and his 1990 hit "Momma Said Knock You Out" is heard in the opening club sequence as James Woods and the police are staking out and during the end credits.
One of Michael J Fox's lines in The Hard Way, is 'Hey, I'm Driving Here, I'm Driving Here' and in Back To The Future 2, a very similar line he read was 'Hey, I'm Walking Here, I'm Walking Here'.
