Detailed Plot:
In Back To The Future I, Michael J Fox plays the character of Marty McFly a 17 year old American. Marty has a girlfriend, Jennifer Parker (Claudia Wells) and his own rock band, The Pinheads. Marty goes home every night to a depressed mother who is unhappy, due to drink and smoking, and his father who is a complete wimp, bullied by Biff. Marty's mum Lorraine, always tells the story of how her and his dad had met, in 1955, her dad had run over him with a car, and she felt sorry for him, so she took him to the Enchantment under the sea dance.
The film starts of with young Marty at Doctor Emmett Brown's house. Doc is a scientist with big ideas, and invents a time machine out of a DeLoreon car. Doctor Emmett Brown is wonderfully played by Christopher Lloyd. Doc asks Marty to assist him with a new invention he's made, so they meet at the twin pines mall at 1:15 in the morning. Marty is taping Doc, as he shows Marty his new invention, and sends his dog, Einstein, one minute into the future. The time machine doesn't run normally, it uses Plutonium, so Doc rips the Plutonium off some Libians. The Libians find Doc and he is shot in the chest by the terrorists. Marty gets in the time machine and trys to get away from the terrorists, he accidently goes up to 88mph,which is what sends the time machine to another time sceme.
Marty crashes into a barn in 1955 and is confused at where he is. He visits where he lives, and sees it hasn't been made yet! He visits Hill Valley and has a look around at how things had changed. Marty sees his 17 year old dad in a cafe, and discovers he is been pushed around by Biff Tannen (Thomas F Wilson), just like he was pushed around by him in 1985. Marty follows his dad out of the cafe and sees him up a tree, spying on a women, his dad falls out of the tree and on to the road, nearly getting knocked over. Marty saves his dad's life, and he gets run over instead, by doing this he interferes in his parents, Lorraine (Lea Thompson) and George's (Crispin Glover) first meeting, so a photo of his brother, sister and him starts to fade.
He looks up Doc, in the phone book, to try and get him to help him, get back to the future. It is a very exciting film as Marty can't get back to the future without any plutonium, he hasn't got enough power, and the only way to generate the sort of power he needs, is from a bolt of lightning, but you never know when one will strike, do you? He also has to get his parents to fall in love or he will never be born. It is very intense and they leave it to the last minute to see wether he gets back to 1985, or not. It would also be nice to get rid of Biff and save Doc from his death. Marty also gets to visit the "famous" Enchantment Under The Sea dance, and experiences life in the 1950's.
Quotes:
Marty: What the hell is a gigawatt?
Doc: If my calculations are correct, when this baby hits eighty-eight miles per hour... you're gonna see some serious sh**
Doc: There's that word again; "heavy". Why are things so heavy in the future? Is there a problem with the earth's gravitational pull?
Marty: Wait a minute, are you telling me that this sucker is NUCLEAR?
Marty: Flux-capacitor... fluxing
Marty: The car, Dad. I mean he wrecked it. He totaled it. I needed that car tomorrow night, Dad. Do you have any idea how important this is to me? Do you have any clue?
Lorraine: Well, that is your name, isn't it? Calvin Klein? It's written all over your underwear
Skinhead: Hey Biff, get a load of this guy's life preserver. Dork thinks he's gonna drown

Goofs:
When Doc is hanging from the clock trying to chanel the lightning into the DeLoreon, he is wearing trainers with velcro straps. It is supposed to be the Doc from 1955, but velcro wasn't invented until 1967!
Marty writes a letter to Doc about him been shot on the night he went back in time. Doc doesn't want to know and rips up the letter. Near the end Doc hands the taped-up note back to Marty. But the taped note is on different stationery.
Doc stuffs garbage into the DeLorean, signifying that in the future there's no need for gasoline. Yet later, in the future, we see a modern-looking Texaco station. Do they pump gas or garbage?
Marty visits his Back to the Future mother-to-be. It's November 5, 1955, yet they're watching an episode with Jackie Gleason and Art Carney entitled "The Man From Space." The episode first aired on December 31, 1955.
When Marty is in his (1955) Dad's backyard, the shirt he's wearing has green flaps on the pockets. Some shots the flap is tucked in the pocket, sometimes not.
Trivia:
Eric Stoltz was first cast to be Marty, but was then changed to Michael J Fox, after a few scenes had been shot.
Michael J Fox mimed Johnny B Goode but actually played the guitar, and it was 10 years since he held a guitar!
Michael was filming Family Ties during the day and Back To The Future at night and hardly sleeping a wink!
