Detailed Plot:
Jamie Conway finds himself once again in a club drinking himself to death with his mate Tad Aligash. He thinks he can't live without drugs and once again takes a trip to the bathroom. He misses how life used to be, living with his wife Amanda and the smell of bread in the local bakery, and now his life had changed so much, revolving around clubs and drugs. Amanda moved to Paris to follow her dreams of been a model. Jame is left alone and hates his life.
Jamie jumps on the bus reading about coma babies in the paper. He is late in the morning for work with a hangover, Clara gives Jamie a lecture and he is expected to finnish editing a French article before the day is through. If there is one single mistake he would be in trouble. He has to stay behind after everyone leaves, Tad calls him at the office wondering where he is for their night out. Jamie rushes the article to get out of there as soon as possible and heads back to his apartment.
He is writing a noval about his life and he starts to think about Amanda, he screws it up and starts a letter on the typewriter which reads 'Dead Amanda,' Tad calls round to pick him up for the night out with two girls. After seeing the letter, Tad has an idea and tells everyone that Amanda is dead so that Jamie doesn't seem the fool. He tells one couple, Richard and Kathy, she died of Lukemia, which sets Jamie thinking about his mother, who died from cancer. Jamie goes home and dreams about the coma baby.
Jamie sees Amanda as a doll modeling clothes in a shop window and tracks her down, knowing that she is in town. He rings Ted to meet up with him at the club. They both need favours from each other, Tad wants to go out with a girl but he promised his cousin Vicky they would go out, so Jamie agrees to take her out. Jamie's favour is for Ted to help get him tickets to see Amanda.
Jamie goes out with Vicky, they talk and get on well together. The night is ended with a kiss and Jamie promises he will ring her, and they will see each other again. He forces himself to stay off drugs for the night.
Clara checks over the article that Jamie 'edited' and he is fired when she finds all the mistakes, because it is too late to change them. Jamie's friend in the office, Megan is especially sad to see him go and proposes they meet for dinner. Megan tells Jamie that his brother, Michael, has been ringing him constantly and he needs to speak to him urgently. Jamie ignores his messages because he doesn't want to speak to him.
Jamie forgets to meet up with Megan for lunch and sits on a bench to think. An old man asks him if he wants a ferret and drugs so Jamie buys and stocks up his supply. Tad gives Jamie the tickets to go watch Amanda model. He demands an explanation while she struts along the cat walk. She can't hear him and Jamie gets thrown out.
Jamie returns home to find Michael on his door step so he runs away and gets on a train. He goes back to his office and talks to Megan. They go to dinner and Jamie pours her heart out to her about Amanda. He tries to hit on Megan when she sympathises with him and then he leaves in a hurrry. At home he finds Michael on his bed asleep, Michael shouts at Jamie to come back with him because it his 1 year since his mother died. He has flashbacks of her dying. Jamie offers Michael drugs!
There is a call from Ted and he tells him to come to a party and Amanda is there. He leaves Michael in the shower and goes to the party. Amanda is now with a French Photographer, she comes to up to Jamie and asks him how it's going, he splutters and coughs and has a nose bleed. He decides he needs help and rings Vicky and really opens up to her, she comforts him. Jamie leaves his life behind and tells Tad and Amanda what he thinks of them, he trades his sun glasses for bread and this marks the start of his new life.
Quotes:
Walter Tyler: Does Clara piss in the men's room or the ladies? Jamie Conway: I don't believe she pisses.
Jamie Conway: He's not necessarily a man for a heart to heart, but he's been a good friend to me in a time and need and and he's generous in his own careless way, are you two very close? Vicky Aligash: I think he's an ass. Jamie Conway: Exactly...I gotta wash my hands, be right back.
Jamie: Ah ya know, I hear rabies shots are really painful, put needles in your dick or something.
