Biography

Recently described by BBC Music Magazine as 'an outstanding artist' Michael Dussek has for more than twenty years led a varied career as chamber musician, singer's accompanist and soloist. He has performed in many of the world's major concert halls, such as London's Royal Festival Hall,Wigmore Hall and Royal Opera House, Amsterdam's Concertgebouw, Madrid's Auditorio Nacional,Toronto's Roy Thomson Hall, Tokyo's Suntory Hall, Osaka's Symphony Hall and Taipei's National Concert Hall as partner to some of today's outstanding international soloists: violinists James Ehnes, Cho-Liang Lin, Anne Akiko- Meyers, Kurt Nikkanen, Gil Shaham, Antje Weithaas and Xue Wei; cellists Alexander Baillie and Ofra Harnoy; flautist James Galway, oboists Douglas Boyd, Sarah Francis and Melinda Maxwell, clarinettist Mark van de Wiel and horn player Stephen Stirling. Singers he has accompanied include Susan Bullock, Bernada Fink, Christopher Maltman, Ian Partridge,Jean Rigby and Vassily Savenko. Capital cities in which he has performed as recitalist include Amsterdam, Beijing, Belfast, Bonn, Brussels, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Helsinki, London, Madrid, Paris, Prague, Seoul, Taipei, Tokyo and Vienna. He has performed at most of the major British festivals.

Michael has broadcast for many of the world's radio stations and has made numerous commercial recordings for labels such as ASV, BMG, Chandos, EMI, Hyperion and Meridian.These include an award-winning disc of sonatas by Prokofiev and Schubert with Ofra Harnoy, and a recent CD and DVD of violin virtuoso works with Xue Wei. His recording with oboist Sarah Francis of music by Britten (including his music for solo piano music) was described by Fanfare magazine as 'one of the most magical discs of Britten yet made'. His recording of Rubbra's complete solo piano music also received outstanding reviews.This was part of an ongoing series of CDs of English music which Michael has recorded for the Dutton Epoch label, two of which have been nominated for Gramophone awards. Most recently he has recorded York Bowen's first piano concerto with the BBC Concert Orchestra conducted by Vernon Handley.

As a member of the Dussek Piano Trio, with his wife, cellist Margaret Powell and violinist Gonzalo Acosta he has recorded trios by Arensky,(a top recommendation in both Gramophone magazine and International Record Review)Brahms, Bridge and Haydn. The trio has twice been selected as featured touring artists by the National Federation of Music Societies. As a member of Endymion Ensemble, he has recorded works by York Bowen, Dohnanyi, Fibich and Rubbra and has collaborated with many of today's major composers including Hans Werner Henze, Oliver Knussen, Colin Matthews, Peter Maxwell Davies and John Taverner. He is a member of Primavera, and has performed with the Schubert Ensemble, the soloists of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, the City of London Sinfonia and the Orchestra of the Age of the Enlightenment.

He is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music where he has taught piano accompaniment and chamber music since 1988.
