Bio

Michael Capon (M.Mus., ARCT) lives in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, with his wife Ellen, where he serves as Director of Music at Glenview Presbyterian Church, and is active as a performer, conductor, composer, and teacher. In addition to his church work, Michael has directed community choirs and orchestras, directed music for theatrical productions, taught music theory and organ students, and adjudicated at music festivals and competitions.

He studied organ, conducting, and composition at McGill University in Montreal, and piano through the Royal Conservatory of Music, Toronto.


Hockey Night in Canada theme song

Michael has submitted an entry to the CBC competition for a new theme song for Hockey Night in Canada. There are two versions: Ice Time and Ice Time - Pumped

Compositions

The music employs modes of the composers invention, most recently experimenting with hexatonic modes derived from combining two major and/or minor triads (for example, combining a C-major triad with a d-minor triad to produce the six-note mode c,d,e,f,g,a). In his instrumental compositions, he has also experimented with new forms. His choral compositions tend to be written with competent church choirs in mind.
