Season 2008:
2008 RECAP - This year produced many highs and lows that is ever present in the sport of horseracing.
Some of the highlights included a 2yo victory, and POP winning at Group 1 level. Miss Bust's performances this year, winning 5 Group 1 races has been the greatest highlight of the year as well as my PF career. She earned in excess of 2 million this year along with 2 WR and plenty of TR. I believe she will back up these performances in the years to come.
The most memorable race this year for me is probably the Thousand Guineas, where Miss Bust notched up her and the stables first Group 1, beating Jewel Mint over the non-preferred distance of a mile.
The low points of the year included the mis-firing 2yo. As a result 2 were sold off. LMNOP was also extremely dissapointing never recording a win in her career which promised so much.
Next year there is plenty to look forward to with a broodmare now (LMNOP) as well as a increasing number of racers and the prospects of a few racers cementing their place as dominant horses in the game. Thanks for the year, to all a merry XMAS
ENTRY 10 - The final week of racing with the Hong Kong meeting the most notable. Miss Bust and Morning After went out in the sprint. The field of 10 were ver strong and included 2yo champ Moet, Attack at Dawn and BC sprint winner Victory Dance. Miss Bust drawing the widest barrier flew the gates and against jockey instruction went to the lead. Morning After, a notable leader was challenging. her out wide and Moet and Returnofthedancer had the inside running with Attack at Dawn stalking behind. The wide running and hot pace quickly told on Morning After and he fell out the back as Miss Bust was tryig valiently to hold on down the straight. Moet having had a quiet ride from barrier 1 kicked up inside to edge out Attack at Dawn closely nosing out Miss Bust in World Record time. A dissapointing result here down under as there were high hopes placed upon this race. Thats racing.
ENTRY 9 - After being scratched in the BC Sprint, Miss Bust was raring to go for a tilt at the Group 1 Stradbroke. Missing some top line sprinters still recovering from the BC sprint, most notably Attack At Dawn, a field of 12 took to the gates and when they opened Miss Bust rocketed out as usual. They were setting a good clip out front with Parisian Sheikh and Blazing Risk who recently recorded World Record time over 5F. This set up beautifully for Miss Bust, as she stalked the leaders until they began to tire. The jock rated her well keeping close to the rails for most of the ride as she eased past the leaders rounding the bend. In the straight Miss Bust began to run out a bit as the quickening Fly So High found an inside run inviting her through. Miss Bust eased down believeing she had done enough when Fly So High kicked up inside her to grab the lead. A strong second effort by Miss Bust grabbed back the lead, and she held onto it going past the line winning by a half-head. Another World Record time. A memorable win by this superstar sprinting filly.
ENTRY 8 - Last week was very enjoyable here at the stables. Morning After won back to back group 2 races over 1200m beating a surging view of paradise by 1/4 Length. Peaken on Patrol recorded his first Group 1 win just as I hoped for beating December Snow over 1200m as well. Miss Bust was the big race of the day but she came a decent 2nd the emerging star attack at dawn. Unfortunately there wasn't enough pace on to pressure the eventual winner. Off to have a go at the BC Sprint if given the right surface if not we will wait for a repeat against AAD in the $1 million Stradbroke.
ENTRY 7 - Over the past month of racing, Miss Bust has thrown down the gauntlet to other sprinters. After the Golden Jubilee, she ran a tough second to Attack at Dawn in the July Cup, followed by a win in the Newmarket just off world record time, and a world record 1100mT in the galaxy. Back to back Group 1's and 3 from the past 4 with a 2nd in between. Peaken on Patrol has been running well over 6F coming 2nd twice in G1 races. Belta has also been picking up cheques here and there over longer distances. Miss Bust will have a little break now and come out in the business end of the sprinting calender.
ENTRY 6 - The break period had by most of my horses seemed to do a world of good. A successful week 25-26 was had. Elemenohpee was sent out in a 3200m race finishing 3rd from 3 confirming that the distance preference is wrong. Maybe 8-10F is his cup of tea. Belta went out next in a tough G1 race finishing 4th from 5 but hardly disgraced. Miss Bust followed her out the in the next recording her second G1 win this time over 6F running an impressive 114 PSR. Following in her fellow countyman Choisir she defeated a good Golden Jubilee field. She may push forward to the July Cup and achieve what Chiosir couldn't. Peaken on Patrol came a decent 2nd in a hot G1 Australian Stakes, pulling up sore for his effort. Morning After performed dissapointing again not getting her own way early led to another collapse on the stretch, finishing last. However we broke our 2yo maiden this year with Ronton Ripper winning in his 4th career start over 1100m. Overall a healthy week for the stables.
ENTRY 5 - Nothing of great merit to report lately. Belta has came back from her spell with a couple of solid efforts however most of the other 3 y/o's seem to need a bit of a rest. Coins ran in a long distance race today coming 8th in a field of 20. Not bad but he will need to step it up a notch or two soon.
ENTRY 4 Dubai Week
- Morning After went out an outside chance in the UAE and jumped well
but was headed by a hyped up Enlightenment. Although he was able to
settle down somewhat it wasnt for long as Landmine was quickly at his
heels. Unfortunatly M.A ran out of puff early and faded to a
dissapointing 7th. Landmine held onto a memorable win. Miss Bust also
went out and was 3rd favourite in a 5 horse Group 1 Thousand Guineas.
The inform Attack at Dawn and Jewel Mint coming off a world record
headed the field early. The blistering sectionals led to a very quick
6F in the going. On the back stretch Attack at Dawn the sprinting
specialist faded with the jump in distance and it was a battle between
two. Although Miss Bust always looked ready to pip Jewel Mint, the
latter fought doggedly till the end. The photo was snapped and the
result was....... ....................Miss Bust, who had just dived at
the line to grab the Group 1. Miss Bust recorded our stables first
group 1 and the celebrations will continue to the morning after,
hopefully forgetting the other race that day.
ENTRY 3 - The 2 y/o's went out
this week, however between the four of them there was no pay cheques
which was dissapointing. Of the lot ronton ripper went out the shortest
price but died in his run finishing well back. Coins came home and
looks to be a long distance runner. Morn Park was dissapointing but
hopefully his runs can improve. P.O.P went out in the caulfield guinies
and got injured whilst finishing last place. The winner he had
previously beat over the same distance which was extremely
dissapointing. Oh well next week....hopefully Morning After can bring
back the UAE.haha i wish.
ENTRY 2 - Miss Bust, after a 3rd place behind Union Jack the previous week
a drop back in distance and a bit more fitness gave way to a solid
performance breaking her maiden and beating Quizzical by more than 6
lengths. Finally putting in a run which she had promised and although
she is still a bit green its great to see her in the winners circle.
P.O.P also ran with his 3rd win on the trot. This was over a mile in a
weak grade 2 race, although no complaints from this stable. His
prizemoney is almost up to half a million and is by far the most
successful racer of this stable. Belta ran 5th for the 2nd week in a
row and will be turned out for a rest and maybe tried at longer
distances. Next week will see our 2 year olds go out hopefully.
ENTRY 1 - The
stable waited to weeks 3 and 4 to kick off the season. Belta was first
out who ran well over 6F finishing behind 3 of the best 3 y/o's around.
An increase in distance should result in even better performances.
Morning After went out in the Group 1 Donn Handicap. The first real
chance of group 1 success. Overcoming the fast early pace Morning After
settled well and looked the winner up until the late challenge from
Take a Gander with 1.5F to go. Although M.A fought gallantly it wasnt
enough but a 2nd place was a fantastic result. Peaken on Patrol started
the season the way he finished, with a solid win in a group 2 race. He
always looked the winner and eased up over the line, however he still
pulled up sore which is a surprise. LMNOP went out in the 3200
allowance race, however failed to compete. Her AR is brilliant and the
distance preference is 2 miles however we must play the waiting game
with her. Overall a good week especially for the dwindling cash
funds.
Season 2007
ENTRY 1 First hit out on the weekend with Morning After coming in 2nd 4.5L
behind Patchers. M.A equalled the previous record over 4F and was still
beaten by 4.5L. His next race will be the Crackerbarrel Stakes. Ill
send out Belta next week in the Fulham Park Plate and she should do ok.
As expected Belta went ok, running 2nd to Princess Royale, beaten by a
neck, doing a fair time. She looked pretty spent after the race and
will get a few weeks to recover. Not sure who will be running next
week, yet.
ENTRY 2 Change of plans for
Morning After worked out. Avoided Crackerbarrel to hopefully avoid
Patchers. It worked and M.A won the JFK Stakes comfortably. Belta won a
close one, although running a fair time, and Peaken on Patrol won on
debut in another tight one against Ab-Daledigaeth. Boost ran last again
and which is continuing the same trend. Things looking a little rosier
in the stables.
ENTRY 3 Almost finished the
season. No major success but at least Boost has scored 2 wins. M.A was
impressive last start, notching up his second win of his short career,
this time over 1 mile. The long wait in between races paid off. Belta
is also finding a little form and the stables in general is picking up
handy small cheques before the auction this year.
ENTRY 4 One
week later we have another back in the winner circle. Peaken on Patrol
came back from a nice break to score a tough win over lil belle over a
mile. Got injured and will be back out to the paddock for another
spell, which is disappointing. Miss Bust made her debut running a good
second. Her immaturity cost her a victory but all signs are good with
this young filly.
