UPDATE Monday Nov 5th at 6:49 pm  SwimBoy has landed in Everglades City.  Spoke with his other half, Kathleen.  He was doing well this morning, a bit tired but he's a good sleeper and that sure helped.  Next stop TBA!  Great progress!  He left at 2:34 pm yesterday from the Sanibel Island Causeway.

UPDATE Nov 6 at 3:36 PM  Bill is past his destonation for the day, Highland Beach and headed towards Ponce de Leon Bay.   I'm guessing he'll stop at Graveyard Creek or head towards one of the chickees hitting Flamingo tomorrow (unless he shoots straight in tonight.)   Very exciting progress!

UPDATE Nov 7 at  8:00 am  We wake up to find Bill stopped for the night on a mangrove island.  These can be tough spots to stop.  The wind is out of the NW as he enter Joe River.

He will reach Flamingo today.  Arrival in Miami expected for Thursday or Friday. Depends on if he makes a push for N. Nest Key with the NW wind or stops at Flamingo for some sleep.

The wind will start to come around on Thursday with Friday forecast of 17-22 out of the east.

UPDATE  Well, Wayne and I headed down to Flamingo last night to catch Bill.  He must be the stealthiest expedition paddler ever born.  We looked under and around all sorts of places and never founds him.  I think he was under the walkway or in someone's warm accomodations.  The park people are pretty accomodating.

In any case, he starte doubt early this moring and looks like he'll hit Short Key in a couple of hours.

This means he will arrive in Miami sometime late tomorrow.  Come and greet him!  God knows he derves a healthy show of support.

Bill ran into some  trouble.  After two nights of sleeping in the kayak exhaustion and hypothermia took a toll on him.  After being on the water for a few hours he felt he was not making progress against the increasing wind.  A tear in the hull of his skin-on frame kayak required tending.  Bill pulled off at Angler's Club near Ocean Reef where he received some much needed assistance in the form of a hot shower, dry clothes and eventually, a place to sleep the night away.

After some rest he began to regain his composure.  At approximate 7:00 pm he called his wife to let he know he would be sleeping at the marina and plans to head out in the morningto complete the challenge.

We look forward to Bill's successful completion of this very difficult challenge.  Way to go Bill.  Best wishes on the tough paddle ahead.  We'll be waiting for you at the finish line.
