Our 2008 summer was a fairly active one. It started out with a clinic in Antigonish with Clinician Ralph Hamilton from North River, NS. We had 10 participants and a couple auditors. The main focus of the clinic was on pleasure driving. We went then into the show season with 3 shows sanctioned by the Miniature Horse Association of Nova Scotia. The first was a two day show and it was held at the Antigonish Exhibition Grounds on James Street in Antigonish on June 14th and 15th. There was a variety of classes including confirmation, novice driving, pleasure driving, roadster, barrels, poles, obstacles, jumping, a couple team classes as well as a mens and ladies pleasure driving and an adult wait and see class. There was 28 entries at the show. The weather was cool and damp on Saturday, but Sunday turned out to be a very nice day
The second show was the Hub Town Show and this year it was held at the Wallace Miniature Horse Farm on Upper Brookside Road in Truro on July 26th. The weather for that one day show started out with a few light showers but the skies brightened and it turned out wonderful. There was a small breeze in the air that kept it from getting too hot. There was the usual variety of classes with a stake class for Roadster and the Gerald Bowlin Memorial Pleasure Driving Stake as well as a couple team classes. There were 26 entries came out for that show.
Our third and final show was the Oxford Show held at the indoor arena at the Oxford Exhibition grounds in Oxford on September 6th. The weather was beautiful. There was a couple open stake classes added to the usual class list as well as a novice pole bending class. With only 13 entries at that show there was not a lot of pressure at tack change time and this made for a very relaxed show.
Our next function will be the end of the year banquet and Annual Christmas party. More information will be posted soon.
