I have completed the honours list, and am in the process of compiling every league table from every Merseyside league season back to 1982. So far I have completed up to 1996 the year Brian Daley won the league and I finished bottom.
A host of questions for the Q&A page from Mr Peter (assertive) Liversedge.
- When the Merseyside League was first formed dinosaurs (does that include yourself Sedge) roamed the earth. Do you know which is the oldest league still in existence?
- Why don't we ever see the 'scissors flick' anymore? This was surely one of the neatest tricks ever seen on the green baize!
- Have you got a T.S. graveyard of all former Merseyside greats and not so greats?
- Who is the oldest player to win the MTFC league?
- Who is the fattest player to win the MTFC league?

Answers now available on relevent page.

The Beginnings of the Merseyside Table Football Club go back to 1982 when two friends from Crosby, Liverpool, Peter Liversedge and Peter Childs (Charlie to his mates?) regularly played each other.
At the same time in Huyton, Liverpool, Alan Butler, Danny Driscoll and Brian Daley were playing on a regular basis as well.
Len Parsons played in a league in West Derby Comprehensive School in 1973-74, and also in the Tuebrook Subbuteo League from 1975 to 1981 which sadly disbanded as people went off to pursue their careers.
Len advertised in the Subbuteo News for a league in Liverpool and was contacted by Glyn Howarth from Anfield.
Ray Stubbs who worked for Radio Merseyside at the time contacted Len through 'Subbuteo news' and told him he would like to play a game of Subbuteo at Len's house and interview him. The interview went out on Match Night Special which was heard by Alan Butler.
Alan contacted Len and we went to Glyns for a few games. It was then we realised the standard of play was on a much higher level than we had envisaged as Alan thrashed Len 5-0 in a 10-min each way game.
Alan put Len in touch with Peter Liversedge, and one night in 1983 Robert Maddocks and Len travelled to Crosby to face Charlie and Sedge. They were on the same level as Mr Butler and gave them another thrashing.
In 1984 all three groups of people decided to form the Liverpool Subbuteo League.
Due to an influx of Evertonians who were unhappy with it being called 'Liverpool' it was eventually agreed after much arguing, back-stabbing and backhanders, that the name should be changed to The Merseyside Table Football Club.
Glyn Howarth threw himself into Subbuteo and got to know many people involved in the sport and discovered their was another form of the sport Called 'Table Soccer' and people were running tournaments in Milton Keynes, Birmingham and Romford.
We started travelling to some tournaments and gradually started to improve our game by playing against such legends as Kev Dyson, Simon Goodman, Jeff Jordan, Phil Holmes, Bob Varney, Jeff Parsons, Rob Patterson, Jeremy Bradley, Dave (Dickie) Baxter and Carl Young to name but a few.
Then the camp was split Alan and Danny and Sedge preffered Subbuteo, whilst Glyn and Len Preffered Table Soccer, so it was decided to play both codes alongside each other.
Eventually Table Soccer became virtually extinct and now Subbuteo/Sports Table Football rules the world of Table Football.
