Spitz Can Work
I chose this heading as I was confronted one day with great laughter when I told some people that I was off to an Obedience Trial with one of my mittels. This dog was going to his first trial. He came second in the ring with a score of 97/100.That dog was my home bred boy, Aus Ch Merrifox Snugazza Bug.
My Background
My background was largely with horses until I decided that it was a lot easier to cart around several dogs !!! Pictured below winning Open Western Pleasure on my purebred Quarter Horse, Fleetwood Paso.

I have bred and exhibited many breeds of dogs since the 1960`s including the wonderfully sooky Bull Terriers, the working breeds:Shelties, Briards,Koolies,
Labradors and have fallen in love with them all espcially the Spitz breeds of Pomeranian,Keeshond and German Spitz mittel..
The good hands so necessary for the handling of horses was easily transferred over to dogs.

Spitz are a Challenge but well worth the effort!!
I never backed away from a training challenge and I became enchanted with the Spitz breeds, namely, the Pomeranian, the Keeshond and the German Spitz. I knew they were independent breeds but highly intelligent and ,rather than conform to working wih the traditional Obedience breeds, I decided to prove that these dogs were not lap dogs, not just pretty faces but could get down and get dirty and work their little pants off!!
I set out to prove that German Spitz were more than just glamorous show dogs, but serious contenders for high placings in Obedience trials.
My first two Spitz, a Pomeranian and a mittel GS, Bill and Girlie , pictured below.

It was these two gallant little triers that began to write the history books for the GS in the Obedience ring, especially Girlie who gained her CD title in 1998, a little black fluffy girl who definitely proved that :
