After graduating from university in Law and Business Studies, Susan Meldrum spent a number of years working successfully within the field of finance before deciding to retrain to become a Careers Adviser. Susan went on to gain a Postgraduate Diploma in Careers Guidance from Napier University and has gained over eleven years experience of providing one to one advice to a range of people from all walks of life within a national careers organisation. This has ranged from school pupils and leavers looking for their first job to professionals looking for a change of career or second income to those approaching retirement and looking to wind down into part time work.
Over the years Susan's specialisms have included large scale redundancy advice work with employers throughout Scotland such as BT, Glaxosmithkline, BAe, the NHS as well as a large number of small to meduim sized businesses. This has included initial motivational coaching sessions with groups of employees as well as individual careers and job seach advice which typically lead to over 80% of employees finding alternative employment within three months. Susan has also spent some time working within the guidance and education field in Belguim which has given her a broader picture of European careers and international job markets.
Susan has become an expert in the careers field through working with a range of clients from a wide range of backgrounds, occupations and sectors. In addition she has worked in various locations throughout the UK so has a wealth of knowledge surrounding the job market and the opportunities within it. She is able to quickly locate careers or labour market information which can take weeks or months for clients to find out on their own. This knowledge coupled with skilled interviewing and coaching techniques helps clients take the action to reach their full career potential within a time and goal structured framework.
Susan also uses a 'holistic' life coaching approach with clients. She also holds a Life Coaching qualification and uses a combination of careers guidance and life coaching techniques to help clients focus on goal orientated results. Other life issues such as family, relationships, health, well being and leisure pursuits are taken into account and balanced alongside these goals.
Susan has been a member of the Institute of Careers Guidance for the past twelve years. This Institute is the largest professional association for guidance practitioners in the UK. Susan is bound by the Institute's Code of Ethics when working with clients.
Susan currently lives in the Scottish Borders with her husband, four year old daughter and two year old son.
