FREE PAINT AND PHOTO EDITING PROGRAMSA lot of work can be done even without expensive tools. Here's some free graphical utilities:Gimp stands for Gnu Image Manipulation Program, it is often compared to Photoshop and/or Paint Shop Pro and what's best it's free and open source. It has slightly different interface than what you may have used to and sometimes it can be very complicated and even confusing. But a lot of big, new programs can seem complicated when opened first time. Once you get used to it, you have control of a very powerful program capable of doing things only high priced tools can do. It consists of GTK library and GIMP program itself. To use it, you have to have both of them installed. PhotoFiltre is freeware drawing and image editing tool. Within it's 1.6 Mb of size you get very fast, powerful and capable tool. It's simpler and easier than GIMP but also has less features which shouldn't be a problem for someone looking for simple and effective way to edit images because most important ones are there. Home users who need a simple yet powerful tool to edit their photographs may find that this little gem is just what they need. Artweaver is very good and powerful freeware paint and graphic editing program developed and maintained by Boris Eyrich. It has, for example, layers and transparency support and choice of many brushes to choose from which can also be tweaked and adjusted to your liking. Many filters, effects and tools to help you achieve best results whether editing existing pictures or creating a new ones. You have control over many functions in the program which makes it even more usable. Great program no doubt. Pixia is a freeware drawing tool. What makes it different from Photofiltre in legal terms is that you can use your work any way you like it. There is no restrictions imposed. There's help file at the download page available separately. IrfanView, as the name suggests is primarily picture viewer but it has some image editing capabilities, filters, effects and also screen capture function. It's free for home user. Very small, fast and effective, enables you to view more than 100 graphical file formats and also some video and audio formats too. CoolText is slightly different from other tools given here because it's not a program to download but you have to go their website and make your logo overthere. As the name says it helps you to make text for use in banners or elsewhere. A lot of fonts and styles to choose from. Great site and of course free. Sodipodi is a vector drawing program. This is drawing program with advanced capabilities such as drawing lines and then moving and curving them like objects. Great thing actually, makes drawing a whole lot easier. The same can be told for another tool with svg support called Inkscape. Inkscape is an open source drawing tool with support for SVG file format or scalable vector graphics. Project started when few developers divided from Sodipodi development group and started implementing features and solutions which led to this great new product. Graphy is very small (only 2 Mb in size), but very good freeware paint program. It's like MS Paint but with much more tools and capabilities. ![]() |
