Sygate is something between those two. It has something from both programs and also faithfull users base claiming it to be the one to choose. If you're new to this and have no firewall at all, any of them can give you at least some amount of protection and you should be much safer than without it. No program or programs can protect you 100%, there's no such thing. With viruses, trojans, and other malware on the constant rise, it is necessary to have firewall alongside with some antivirus and antispyware programs.
