MANAGER/COACH
Eric Innes
Eric has been involved in the running and coaching of the club for around 5 years now and has seen the club through some tough times. His emphasis of fitness coaching has really paid off on the squad and along with former manager Davie Crabb guided the club to it's 1st and 2nd ever league titles in the 2005/06 & 2006/07 seasons.
John Starrs
Former long serving player John has always been a popular figure both on and off the pitch at Mearns. He is now turning his hand to the coaching side of things for the 2008/09 season. A welcome addition on the sidelines to try and spread the load of responsibility.
Eric Anderson
Eric is a new addition to the coaching staff for the 2008/09 season.
GOALKEEPERS
Robbie Teperek
Robbie is currently Mearns' longest serving player and has now firmly established himself as the number one choice between the sticks. Originally joining the club as a backup to Davie Crabb, he has proved himself time and again to be a quality keeper with strings of fine saves in important matches. He is an excellent shot-stopper and has good one-on-one ability. Robbie managed to prove his worth to his fellow team mates by winning the players player of the year award for 2003/04.
Ryan Young
Joining the club mainly as an outfielder, Ryan has also proved to be a decent back up keeper. When not in goal however, he can usually be seen along the back four somewhere.
DEFENDERS
Michael Shearer
A new signing for the 2008/09 season. Currently playing centre half.
Chris Black
Another new player for 2008/09. Currently playing left back, he can also play in goal.
Bruce McSloy
Bruce is now starting to show good form for Mearns after joining 2 years ago. Now getting a run at right back, he proved his worth to the team by winning the young player of the year award for the 2007/08 season.
Neil Bruce
The brother of former player Kevin, Neil joined Mearns towards the end of the 2007/08 season. He is currently playing in a defensive position but has the ability to play anywhere on the pitch.
Andrew Dinnet
Andrew has been in and out of the Mearns set up for a couple of years and usually plays in the back 4.
Chris Kirkland
Chris is a composed player and has the strength and skill to get himself and the team out of trouble. A former right sided midfielder, he has the ability to play on either flank as a defender or a midfielder. However, he has proved to be a good source of goals after a stint as a striker. He was awarded the managers player of the year award after a tremendous 2003/04 season.
Andrew Beel
Pace is probably his best asset, but he sometimes shows glimpses of skill on the left side of the pitch. He has played in plenty of positions for the club but can usually be found either at left back or left mid.
MIDFIELDERS
Gavin Lawson
Gav is now in his second season at United after managing to win a midfield berth last season. He adds some battling qualities to the side and can usually be seen playing in and around the centre of the pitch.
Gary Legg
Leggy joined Mearns for the 2007/08 season and showed that he is a decent player.
Another player who can play in a number of positions.
Ross Abernethy
Ginge is also in his second full season at United and now seems to be the preferred choice at left mid. Likes to show is skill.
Ryan Crabb
After two full seasons at full back Ryan is now an automatic choice. He picked up the young player of the year award for 2003/04. He likes to get forward and often pops up in the box searching for goals. He was awarded the Player of the Year for 2005/06 season after some sensational performances.
Grant Morris
Centre mid Grant is now in his 3rd season at Mearns and has proved to be an effective defensive midfielder.
Andrew Kirkland
Andrew has been in and out of the side for a few years now but is an ever present at training and on match days. His determination to win a place is a great asset to the team, and he has managed to bag a few goals for the club in his time. However he is more likely to be seen battling it out on one of the wings.
Steven Law
Stevie 'the hero' had a superb first season for Mearns and capped it off by winning the Young Player of the year award for 2005/06. He has managed to score countless important goals to warrant his tag.
ATTACKERS
Ryan Causby
New signing for 2008/09 season
Jason Donald
Another new signing for 2008/09
Darren Jennisson
Darren has been a Mearns for a couple of years now and likes to frustrate the opposition with his book of tricks.
Chris Irvine
Chris joined the club a few years ago and is always vying for a place up front. He has plenty of pace and is a good outlet for the team. Doing well in the air and with good skill, he is a very good player because of his bravery. Good as a striker or also as a winger, he never stops running.
GOALKEEPERS
David Crabb
Mr Mearns United.
David Millar
David is a good goalkeeper who has been in and out of the side for the past few years. Always performing well when called upon in goal and also having the ability to play outfield, he is now causing a selection headache for the boys in charge as to just who should play in goal.
DEFENDERS
John Starrs
Mearns United legend John Starrs has recently announced his retirement and will be sorely missed on match days and training sessions. John's experience was his best asset and he used it to its fullest every week. Perhaps lacking the pace he once had, he still managed to play week-in week-out due to a good fitness level, great passion for the game and over 30 years worth of playing know-how.
Lee Paton
Lee was a very committed defender and the Mearns defence seemed somewhat lacking when he left to join another local Saturday team. If he wasn’t playing then he was on the sidelines watching. He scored 8 goals during his four year stay.
Steven Wilson
Steven Wilson played for Mearns for 2 seasons and was a good and solid defender. Had injuries not hampered him he would no doubt have been a candidate for young player of the year. He left to play at a higher level, but scored 2 goals while at the club.
Adrian Hay
As a solid defender
Ian Anderson
Ian was another solid defender who put his all into the job. Unfortunately a series of facial injuries meant that he decided to call it a day and was another one who decided to get a life rather than risk it.
Ally Aitken
Ally was a good defender who had played for a few different teams in the welfare league. He could play as a sweeper or full back, and he liked to put in the tackles.
Steven Smith
Steven is a defender who started playing for Mearns a couple of years ago going on to become a first team regular. Fantastic in the air and solid in the tackle he is a very good player who likes to impose himself upon the opposition forwards.
Kyle Duncan
Kyle played a lot of games over a couple of years as left back and looked comfortable for a right footer. He has also played in midfield and looked good managing to pop up in the box to set up the attackers.
Rob
Rob was another new signing for 2006/07 he played at centre back and seemed solid in the tackle.
Ross Mitchell
Ross is now in his second season at Mearns and showed in his first that he is a good, strong defender. He's also great in the air and has shown he knows where the opposition net is by scoring on his debut.
David Barber
David joined the club last season and is a solid defender with good ability and experience. He played for a local Saturday amateur side until sustaining an injury a few years ago. After his performances last season he has become one of the preferred central defenders.
MIDFIELDERS
Michael Clifton
Michael was a tricky winger who loved to torment his opponents with his good skill. He left Mearns as he moved out of the area but in his time at the club he was a constant threat, managing to notch 19 goals for the club in 2 seasons.
Adrian McLaughlin
‘Paddy’ was a powerful centre midfielder but his work commitments meant that he had to move out of town. Always available in the centre circle and yet managing to score 18 goals during his stay due to his prowess in the air and at free kicks.
Sean Cahill
Sean possessed a powerful right foot and used it to score 17 goals during his short on-off relationship with the club. Usually playing as a winger, he would shoot from anywhere.
Andy Nicol
‘Evergreen’ Andy, as he was once named was a strong midfielder who played for Mearns for 5 years. As a tough tackler his never say die attitude meant that he was always a favourite with the fans. However, the opposition also suffered at his hands as he managed to net 14 goals in total.
Charlie Watt
Charlie could play in midfield or defence. During his four year stay he managed to bag himself 8 goals, but it was his strength in the air which made him a mainstay in the side.
Neil Young
Neil was a tricky winger who managed to hold down a regular first team place for a few years. He managed to slam home 7 goals in a couple of years, but it was his heading technique which set him apart from the rest.
Donald Gordon
Donald is a combative central midfielder who usually plays in a deeper role. Despite this he has managed to notch 10 goals in his couple of years at the club. Formerly a right back he can play in several positions.
Peter Shotton
Peter played a few games for Mearns at the start of the 2004/05 season and showed promise as a right midfielder.
Graeme Shotton
Graeme was a combative midfielder with a good shot. He played for a season before sustaining a serious injury which kept him out of the game for 4 years. He returned at the start of the 2004/05 season but unfortunately injury again put paid to his attempts to play on.
Danny Melvin
A regular in the heart of midfield, Danny has helped the team out on many an occasion by netting countless goals. Good in the air and not too shabby on the deck, he possesses a powerful left foot.
Stuart Howie
Stuart's versatility was an asset to the club and he managed to play anywhere in the midfield. Always commitment in training and on match days, he was a vital member of the team. A good source of motivation, he was good in the air and always up for the fight in centre midfield.
John Annat
John is currently one of the best players wearing the colours of Mearns. He constantly proves his worth with a very high work rate. The team captain is a constant force and is able to distribute the ball well with a calm head. As a central midfielder or centre half he now has the chance to get forward more often. He received the highly regarded Players Player of the Year for 2005/06.
ATTACKERS
Michael Fotheringham
Michael was an accomplished striker who had great pace and could finish well. Michael played for Mearns for a few years managing to score 25 goals but setting up many more. The Mearns side was weakened drastically when he joined a rival Saturday side.
Ross Adie
Ross was a wonderfully talented striker who seemed to score every time he touched the ball. He rightfully holds second place in the top scorers list with 53 goals. He has since moved on to pastures new.
James Hay
James’ pace was his best asset and he used it to great effect on numerous occasions playing as a striker. The fact that he only managed to score 8 goals during his one and a half seasons at the club was more down to bad luck as he was deadly on his day.
Ross Donald
Ross is another youngster who has great potential. He arrived at Mearns from youth football and was a very good option to throw on and bag a goal. He was fast and had very good skills. He should do well in the next year or two for his new club as he managed to embarrass many an experienced defender last year.
Niall Gallan
Niall had been a part of the Mearns team for years and had a good fighting spirit. He was able to play in any position through the middle due to his height. He could be a good source of goals, but they seemed to dry up towards the end.
Jim Whyte
Jim had been involved with Mearns for a few years but unfortunately work commitments and injury always used to get in the way. However he was good in the air and was always looking for the ball. He also possessed good pace and the ability to break open defences with ease, his powerful shooting caused problems for the opposition keepers.
David Muir
David is a skilful player who can open up defences at will. He played last season and was by far and away the best player in the team and was rewarded for his outstanding performances with a playing contract at Highland League side Lossiemouth. He managed to score well over 50 goals in his season and a half at the club. Everyone at Mearns wishes him the best of luck.
Kevin McManus
Kevin has been at Mearns for a few years but decided to try his luck with another local side. He is a strong player with very good skills.
Stuart Kane
Stuart signed for the 2006/07 team but mysteriously disappeared after a few substitute appearances.
Neil Cadd
Able to hold the ball up and wait for support, or go it alone and use is skill to beat opponents. He has the uncanny ability to always manage to bag a few in tight games. The clubs top goal scorer will no doubt go on to increase his tally this season.
Craig Whyte
Craig has had a great start to his Mearns career and in his debut season has managed to cement his place in the team despite still being a youngster. He possesses some great skills and is quick down the flanks.
