ON SALE FRIDAY 12/8 AT 10AM Hardcore punk revivalists AFI (A Fire Inside)originally formed in 1991 when their members -- vocalist Davey Havok, guitarist Markus Stopholese, bassist Vick, and drummer Adam Carson -- were attending high school in Ukiah, CA. Vick was replaced by Geoff Kresge after several months, and the band played a few local gigs and released a split 7" titled Dork with fellow Ukiah natives Loose Change (a band that incidentally included future AFI member Jade Puget). An EP titled Behind the Times was released as well. The bandmembers then split up to attend different colleges, with Kresge temporarily moving to New Jersey to join Blanks 77, and all assumed East Bay's AFI was defunct. However, the band reconvened during a holiday break from school to play a one-off reunion show, and audience response was so positive that the bandmembers decided to quit school and concentrate on music full-time.

A couple of singles preceded a record deal with the Nitro label, which issued the band's second album, Very Proud of Ya, in 1996. Two LPs followed in 1997 -- a re-release of their 1995 debut, Answer That and Stay Fashionable, and Shut Your Mouth & Open Your Eyes -- and personnel shifts ensued; Kresge was the first to leave, being replaced by Hunter Burgan, and Stopholese departed in favor of ex-Redemption 87 guitarist Jade Puget, who then shared songwriting duties with Havok. The new lineup recorded an EP titled A Fire Inside in 1998, and issued a noticeably more mature full-length in 1999, Black Sails in the Sunset. 1999 also saw the release of the All Hallow's EP before The Art of Drowning followed a year later. Though already owning a fiercely loyal core base of fans, the latter album saw the band's music being received by an even larger audience, due in part to the moderate success of the single "Days of the Phoenix."

In the new millennium, AFI hooked up with Jerry Finn and Garbage's Butch Vig for some recording. The end result was the ambitious Sing the Sorrow, released in March 2003, their major-label debut for DreamWorks that showcased the band's significant growth from their early hardcore days. The record also marked AFI's crossover into the mainstream as their fan base considerably grew, national news publications praised them, and several singles found airplay on MTV. Working again with producer Jerry Finn (blink-182, Green Day), the band's next record was their most labor-intensive to date, resulting from two years of detailed songwriting. Decemberunderground, album number seven, surfaced on June 6, 2006, on Interscope. The album was an instant success, debuting at number one on the Billboard charts. AFI kept the momentum going on the road nationwide that summer, followed by a string of overseas dates in October.

Message From Rob
Well in case some of you are wondering why Pillar hasn't been on the road lately----babies!! Yes we know we have a record out and we know we have some work to do, but we also know that our families come first. With that being said, the new edition to the next Pillar generation is Hudson Cash Beckley. He was born on Oct 8th at 9:20am. 8lbs 14ozs and 20in. My wife is a complete champion. I am so amazed at this whole thing and have seen things through a different set of eyes. Thank you so much to all of you who have kept us in your prayers. It has been much appreciated. It was quite a pleasure getting to see friends and family together. My dad got to come and be there for his second grandson. He was in Iraq when his first was born and he drove all night to get there in time for Hudson's grand entrance. We had a few visitors come up to see us as well. Actually we had a lot!! The funniest was "Uncle" Beau. He looked so afraid of Hudson, but he'll get the hang of it soon.

I actually forgot that we had a record coming out this past week. My wife told me congratulations on Tuesday and I said, "for what." She had to tell me that it was for the record. We were so focused on getting ready for this little guy. I have also been through so much with God lately. I have really had my own little "reckoning" with God. It feels good to be part of the church instead of just some Christian community. To be around people that just love you. That is what I have surrounded myself with lately. All this said, I can't wait to get out there and start playing the songs off this record. I can't wait to start performing the songs that we so passionately worked on in the studio. Personally I don't know if people are ready for this. Here is why....

There is one thing I've come to realize throughout my years of being a Christian. It can be a bit awkward to call yourself a Christian. This isn't to come across like I'm upset about us or what people say, but more so why do we cause our own demise as Christians. Why do we waste our energy trying to prove ourselves right to one another. Opinions are always appreciated and necessary for growth. This example is complete innocent but a gentle insight. I saw on our message board someone asking if "christianity" is still the driving force behind our music. I also saw a reply from someone that understands what we are really about. The reply was "i wouldn't say "christianity" is the driving force behind Pillar's music, but I would say Jesus is." As Christians we are constantly wasting time proving ourselves to other Christians. I know that we took a huge risk on this record. Most people don't even know what that risk is. Let me share it. Christians play it safe. Christians are scared. Christians love comfort. All these statements are very general I must add, but why do they seem so true. Why are we afraid to take risks? Besides, we are the ones that have nothing to fear. I hear so many comments about Pillar did this, Pillar didn't do this, Pillar should've done this, Pillar isn't heavy enough, Pillar soldout, etc.. You get the idea. Well here is the reality. At least we aren't afraid to lay it on the line. That is what "Everything" is about. Giving it all knowing you make get nothing in return. For me the album wasn't written to please fans. Honestly it was written out of obedience to what we were called to do. Take a chance. Step out in front of the pack. Lead from the front. My friend's email signature says. "if you want what you've never had, you have to do what you never done." I want everyone to know that there isn't one person on this planet that can deter me from what I am called to do. I know that I am doing what God has called me to do. Do you? Let us challenge one another to be who are supposed to be instead of telling each other they are supposed to be. I love all of you guys. We have known a lot of you for over 5 years. You have been to numerous shows. You have seen us grow. Know this......I will never be as close to God as I want to, but I am closer today than I was yesterday. I will give everything!! Win, Lose, or Die....WE RIDE!!! rob

-New Baby for the Pillar Family-
First, Lester and Kalel, then Rob and now Noah, Noah and his wife welcomed a brand new baby girl to the Henson family. Please read the blog that Noah posted about his sweet daughter Hannah and the pics of his family.

Hello to all from Noah,

I've been looking forward to writing this Journal entry for a while now because, well, for one i haven't written one in a while, and two i'm excited to tell you all just how amazing God has been to my wife Lindsey, and I. First off i want to say, to all the single guys out there and who think they just might have experienced what true manhood is, or should be, let me just say.....you have NOT a clue until you have experienced the birth of the child that God has graciously and miraculously blessed you with. When that first tear comes dripping, then flowing, then Gushing out of your eyes, you have seen what it is to experience, just a taste of it. And then, true manhood has just begun.

On the morning of October 19th, 2006, at 6:33a.m., i experienced that very thing. The very minute our brand new baby girl, for all who thought we were having a boy, came into this world i think every emotion that exists in the history of man hit me and tore through me like a sharpened two edged sword. I looked in amazement at the form of human life laying before me, and for a second i thought to myself, "Thats not a boy!?" And our Doctor, amazing as he is, looked up at me with a face of confused guilt and said very softly with a smirk, "...its...a girl?!" Of course a matter of seconds later the shock of Her not being a boy wore off and we began celebrating unceasingly. When they put her under the warmer all i could do was stare at her gorgeous face in awe of this amazing creation lying before me. My flesh and blood, my sweat and tears, my heart and soul. God is amazing, and i'll tell you this, God had different plans for me and Lindsey. After months of anticipation and planning and buying boy clothes and thinking about what i was going to do with my new boy and the football games and the wrestling and playing cowboys and indians and cops and robbers, etc...etc...etc... From the minute she was born to even these minutes as i write this entry, i realize just how awesome God is and how his plans for us are so very different than we think they should be. Every moment i spend holding my daughter, looking into her eyes and staring in amazement, i realize that she is everything I ever needed and more. I can't imagine anything else or the thought of not having her here. Gosh i just can't describe the blessing she has been in our lives. I have cried more in the past week than i have in the last 5 years, because i am so overwhelmed that God would give me everything i could dream and more. I feel so unworthy. Father in heaven, i owe you everything. Nothing i have can i give myself credit for. You order my steps and i proceed with conviction and hope. You have saved me from the utter mess that i would become if i tried to take control of my own life. You know me because you molded me from nothing and you gave me the gifts and the character that you did knowing where i would put them and what i would do with them, even with my failures and successes. We have come so far together. God, i love you. Thank you.
Our daughter's name is Hannah Elizabeth Henson. She was born at 6:33a.m. October 19th, and she weighed 6lbs 2oz, and was 20.25 inches long. Thank you all for welcoming her to the family.
