Before they were called Linkin Park they were Hybrid Theory but they had to change it, because another band was using the name, that’s when Hybrid Theory came into the picture. Even before they were Hybrid theory they were Xero. Xero was formed in 1996 by Mike and Brad. Xero was made up of: Mike, Brad, Joe, Rob, Phoenix and Mark. Mark left the band before they were called "Hybrid Theory" because things didn't work out, but he has always been a really good friend of theirs. Mark is now Taproot's manager. When Chester joined the band that’s when the name Hybrid Theory stuck

Chester previously fronted a band called Grey Daze, which only stayed together for one album but isn’t in print anymore. That’s when Chester met Mike and the rest of the guys. Chester was sent a demo to audition for the band. He was asked to sing and make up lyrics for the demo. Then started recording and within three days he finished recording.

The reason they chose "Linkin Park" as their name was because Chester used to drive by Lincoln Park in Santa Monica, CA (which was a middle class neighborhood They changed the spelling so that they could buy the site lincolnpark.com but it was already taken and was too expensive While "Xero" was happening Phoenix was with the band, he left the band at some point to tour with another band Snax. He is not the bassist on the Hybrid Theory EP, Kyle Christner was bass. Once Phoenix finished up with the Snax tour he returned as a permanent member of Linkin Park. Kyle is now in the band NoseDive. Phoenix was the bassist for "Xero", Kyle was the bassist for "Hybrid Theory" and Scott was just a temporary bassist for Linkin Park until Phoenix returned. Scott can also be seen in the 'One Step Closer' video.

New Linkin Park Single News from Phoenix

Body:

Linkin Park Fans,

What's happening? We have quite a bit of news for you.

Firstly, our new album has officially entered the "mixing stage" of the process. We have put more into the new album than anything we have ever done before. After over a year of writing, recording, and setting unrealistic finish dates for the record (sorry about that!), we are in the home stretch. The new album is very exciting for the six of us, and we can't wait until everyone can hear it! When can you get your first taste? We are looking to release the first single in March.

Some of you may think you have already heard some new music; not true.

You have heard either Qwerty, or Announcement Service Public...both tracks that came out of our recording process, but neither of which will be on the album. They are currently available on this year's LPU CD, go check out www.lpunderground.com.

Also, get ready for LPTV. We are going to be releasing a series of internet webisodes on www.linkinpark.com that will give a history of Linkin Park, as well as an inside look at the studio experience with the new album. LPU members will have access to extended footage on almost all of the LPTV episodes.

Lastly, for all of you street teamers, we will be opening the team in the coming months to all you who believe in us, and want to help us spread the word - look out for more coming soon on how to join.

I can't wait until you can all hear the new music!

"Super Xero (By Myself)"

What do I do to ignore what's behind me?
Do I follow my fate and escape blindly?
Do I hide my pride away from these bad dreams
And give into sad thoughts that are maddening?
Do I let it go and try to stand it?
Or do I try to catch them redhanded?
Do I trust some and get fooled by phoniness?
Or do I trust nobody and live life in lonliness?

The sunlight burns the skin of sleeping men
I make the right turns but I'm lost within
I put on my daily façade but then
I just end up gettin' hurt again

[pre-chorus:]
By myself (Myself)
I ask why (but in my mind I find)
I can't rely on myself (Myself)
I ask why (but in my mind I find)
I can't rely on myself

[chorus]:
I can't hold on
To what I want when I'm stretched so thin
It's all too much to take in
I can't hold on
To anything watchin' everything spin
With thoughts of failure sinking in

If I turn my back I'm defenseless
And to give in to fate seems senseless
If I hide my pride and let it all go on
Then they'll take from me 'til everything is gone
If I let them go I'll be outdone
But if I try to catch them I'll be outrun
If I'm killed by the questions like a cancer
Then I'll be buried in the silence of the answer...

[pre-chorus and chorus]

How do you think
That I've lost so much
I'm always afraid
That I'm out of touch
How do you expect
That I will know what to do
When all I know
Is what you tell me to

Don't you (know)
I can't tell you how to make it (go)
No matter what I do, how hard I (try)
I can't seem to convince myself (why)
I'm stuck on the outside
[x2]

[chorus]

I can't hold on
To what I want when I'm stretched so thin
It's all too much to take in
I can't hold on
To anything watchin' everything spin
With thoughts of failure from with...(in)

"Carousel"

she can't hide no matter how hard she tries
her secret disguised behind the lies
and at night she crys away her pride
with eyes shut tight staring at her inside
all her friends know why she can't sleep at night
all her family asking is she alright
all she wants to do is get rid of this hell
well all she's got to do is stop kiddin herself
she can only fool herself for so long [x3]
I'm too weak to face me
(she can only fool herself)

[chorus]
i never know just why you run so far away far away from me [x2]

when it comes to how to live his life he can't be told
says he got it all under control
thinks he knows it's not a problem he's stuck with
but in reality it would be a problem to just quit
an addict and he can't hold the reins
the pain is worse cause his friends have it the same
tries to slow down the problem he's got
but can't get off the carousel until he makes it stop
he can only fool himself for so long [x3]
I'm too weak to face me
(he can only fool himself)

[chorus x2]

Fly with me under the wings I gave you,
Try to be closer to me and I'll save you [x2]

[chorus x2]

"High Voltage"

Just do something to tell you who I am, ya know?

It's high voltage you cant shake the shock

I've been taking into crates ever since I was livin in space
Before the ratrace, before monkeys had human traits
Mastered numerology and bigbang theology
Performed lobotomies with telekinetic psychology
Invented the mic so I could start blessin it
And chincheckin kids to make my point like an impressionist
Many men have tried to shake us
But I twist mic cords to double helixes and show them what I'm made of
I buckle knees like leg braces
Cast the spell of instrumental-ness and all of the emcees that hate us
So try on, leave you without a shoulder to cry on
From now to infinity let icons be bygones
I fire bomb ghostly notes haunt this
I've tried threats but moved on to a promise
I stomp shit with or without an accomplis

Never satisfy my rhyme jones
Sprayin bright day over what you might say

Technicolor type A
On highways right with road rage I'm patient to win
The cage and the tin to bounce all around
In surround sound devouring the scene
Subliminal gangrene paintings
