I have been designing, programming and writing websites. I specialize in designing and programming database-driven websites for small to medium businesses. If you're interested in discussing a web programming project, please e-mail me at hotcoder@msn.com.

My philisophy

Unless you're a hip-hop artist or a fashion designer, the purpose of your website is to convey information. Some basic tenets:

Use images to emphasize, not to show off.
Pages should be easily readable and printable.
Have clear, consistent navigation that doesn't confuse the user.

Good website design

In these days of easy web publishing, it might seem like anybody can design a website. Not true. Here are just a few of the factors an experienced web designer will take into consideration on every page of your website.

Browser Compatability. How does your website look on different browsers? Sure, it looks great on the latest Internet Explorer, but what about Mozilla Firefox? Apple Safari? Linux Konqueror?

Printability. Many people browsing your site print pages for offline reading. Does your website print well?

Alternative Browsers. Does your website work on a WAP cell phone? How about a Blackberry, Sidekick, or WebTV? Will your site completely break down without Flash or JavaScript?

Standards Compliance. Does your website follow industry standards such as those set by the W3C, so it will still work in future browsers and technologies?

Speed. Does your website load quickly, even on a 56K modem? (You didn't think everybody has switched to broadband already, do you?)

Window Resizing. Not everybody browses on a 1024 x 768 monitor. How does your website look when your resize the browser window? Does the website still work on 800 x 600 or even 640 x 480 monitors?

Information Architecture. Can your users find what they're looking for? (You'd be surprised to find that usability shows that most users can't, even on basic websites.)
