Dumfries lies around the River Nith on the Northern shore of the
     Solway Firth in the Southwest of Scotland.
     Friars Vennel, running from the North end of the High Street to the
      Whitesands has always been one of the busiest shopping streets of
     the town, it's shopkeepers and traders supplied the wants of
    a wide community.
     The McNaught family have been resident in the town since the 1780s,
   when Hugh McNaught set up his business in Friars Vennel,
     his family were all born here, they dabbled in wine & sporits and property,
     owning a few properties aound Vennel Foot and Brewery Street.
