Most tents are for four people.  Mixed gender parties of four are usually bunked together, unless the camp's mix of people in an evening requires splitting the men from the women.  So three men and one woman or vice versa usually isn't a problem.

They try to complete lottery assignments by March 31.  On April 1, they begin accepting messages requesting a callback.  They call people back in the order messages are received to offer whatever remains available after the lottery assignments.  Unfortunately, the concession operator takes most of the slots at centrally located Sunrise, so it is difficult to get a free spot without paying them for a guided hike or horse trip.

Meals only is an option, and may be more available than meals and lodging.  One possibility is picking up/dropping off tents partway through the trip, for example between May Lake and Sunrise.

There's a shuttle between Toulomne Lodge and Olmsted, stopping at various points along the way, that runs every half hour during high season.  It also goes out to Tioga Pass a few times a day.
