Manitoba River Surfing Association

Welcome

Welcome to the official website for the Manitoba River Surfing Association. The purpose of this site is to connect and unite river surfers from Manitoba,Canada, and the rest of the world. Our goal is to inform people about river surfing, and create a brotherhood/sisterhood type of community that brings together people who share a love for river surfing.

 What is River Surfing?

River surfing is the sport of surfing either standing waves or tidal bores in rivers.Three types of surfing may be done on these waves, they are boogieboarding(bodyboarding),kneeboarding, and stand-up.There are many waves to be found and surfed yet,it is the "Manitoba River Surfing Association's" mission to try and find at least one or more surfable waves in each province(from the west coast to the east coast). This site will provide to those interested in river surfing information on history, safety, equipment, where to surf, and the ability to connect with other river surfers.

Other river related & recreational water sports

Bungee Surfing:Involves taking a industrial strength bungee, similar to the kind used for jumping. One end is tied to a tree or whatever else next to the river. The surfer holds on to the other end and floats downstream.

By angling the board perpendicular to the flow of water you can stretch out the bungee.Once at its maximum stretch, you then angle the board to skim across the surface. On doing so the surfer is catapulted back upstream.

It is also possible for the rider to do tricks like carve turns, kick flips, big spins, massive ollies, and many more.An experienced rider can even launch off river features! The boards look kind of like a cross between a skimboard and a shortboard.

Wakesurfing:A water sport in which a surfer trails behind a an inboard ski boat, surfing the boat's wake without being directly attached to the boat. After  getting up by use of a tow rope, the rider then gets onto the sweet spot of the wake and is able to surf unassisted without the use of a tow rope.

Wakesurfers generally use special boards, usually 5ft or shorter.

   * Please note that this site is a work in progress and as such will be updated regularly *

A special thanks to ARSA and Elijah Mack for sharing their knowledge and love of river surfing, you are all true river warriors and without your inspiration this site would have not come to be.
