League match - Away to Ascham 18th May 2008
The first league match of the season was
away to Ascham, a very well kept ground just tucked away off the North
Circular. At least it had stopped raining, well that nasty drizzle stuff
that plagued us the day before, instead we had a chilly wind/gale right
to left, sometimes head on, which kept things interesting.
Everyone was feeling a little under par,
and Ian's rallying war cry of "you're all crap" didn't seem to
help this time. I had cunningly managed to keep myself out of the team
by selecting a nine man squad so got on with some much needed practice
along side.
After the first 3 dozen Trevor was getting
excited, exclaiming that he had a really good site mark for 50 yards, but
Mike reminded him that "its' a shame we're doing 60". This seemed
to sum up the day quite well, not only for us Mayflower maniacs but all
the other teams on the field as well. Despite some shaking of the head,
colourful expletives and general disappointment we managed to win by 69
points so well done all!
Also congratulations to Alex Croft who shot
a PB and Sean Pope and Robert Seward on successfully completing their first
league matches.
Many thanks to Ascham for a fine shoot and
most excellent tea.
Martin.
