The target is 5 zoned (scoring 5 - 1) and looks like this and you shoot in ends of 5 arrows. The A detail (or A and C) start shooting at the upper target, the B (or Band D) start on the lower. After 30 arrows you change over.
Joe was keen to shoot this as he’d never done the round, so Wendie booked us in, and in fact there was a good turn out from Mayflower, which always improves the occasion! Warren, Nigel, Trevor, Wendie, Joe and I were all in attendance, we even had enough archers for a recurve team! Trevor provided the Mistrels, and Wendie, the hangover, Nigel got the teas, Joe supplied the energy and myself, the girlish charm!
I was scorer on my target, which was a relaxed one, luckily, as an amazing number of 'serious archers' had appeared, much to my horror, after I volunteered to score. Joe was quite a way from me, and we were both a bit nervous, as this is only his 2nd open target shoot, and he is far more used to field. Luckily some very nice chaps looked after him, and he had a great time.
I did think for a glorious minute I might win my target, as I was level pegging with the compound lady all through the shoot, but she pulled ahead at the last! I ended on 246. Joe scored 31, including one fantastic dead centre 5! He was overjoyed, and we need to claim his record, I guess!
All in all, a really enjoyable shoot, with great company... the last time I shot a Worcester I was dressed as Sexy Santa and had Wonder Woman by my side.. but this was nearly as fun!
