NEW DELHI, May 20 – BANGLA BHASA SHAHID SMARAK SAMITY, NEW DELHI observed the
Language Martyr Day on May 19, 2004 in the capital.
The day was observed by paying tributes to those 11 youths who sacrificed their
lives in order to protect the dignity of their mother tongue - BANGLA BHASHA.
Srimati Tamamoni Paul Choudhury, who was an eye-witness to the event, has the
first to pay homage.
Arun Chokroborty, Head of Prangshu - a capital based Bengali socio-literay
body, said "all of us gathered here at this wee hours to Pay our tributes to
the martyrs". Love for mother tongue happens to be a universal phenomenon and
nobody could deny this simple truth, he added.
The programme to mark the occasion was organised at the CHITTARANJAN PARK Kali
Mandir predominantly a Bengali inhabited locality of New Delhi.
Noted citizen Dr Moni Roy said "we bow down our heads as a mark of respect to
those great souls who scarificed their lives, simply because their loved their
mother tongue - BANGLA BHASHA".
This day, in fact, signifies pride and self-respect of the Bengali's world over,
he added.
Samiti's Secretary General Chandan Chatterjee informed the gathering about the
launch of International Board of Director, to be headed by eminent poet Abdul Gaffar
Choudhury, who immortalise the song 'Amar Bhaiyer Rokte Rangano Ekushe February,
Ami Ki Bhulite Pari".
Dr Gopal Choudhury of Sarbabharatiya Bongo Bhashi Samiti dwell on the dimension of
language that units society and nation.
President of Delhi chapter of Nikil Bharat Bango Sahitya Sanmelan Squadren Leader
(Retd.) N.N.Sarkar urged everybody to develop a mindset that respects all lauguages
at par with his or her own mother tongue.
