Thor Casting Rumors!

The A-TEAM and THOR movie updates!

Date: May 10, 2008

The A-Team dies hard, while Marvel wants Achilles to become the Prince of Asgard!

Meanwhile, over at Marvel, the name they are tossing around to pick up Thor's mighty hammer is Brad Pitt!  A solid choice.

Keep in mind, NO OFFER HAS BEEN MADE TO PITT YET!

Mark Petrosevich wrote one hell of a draft which they are in the process of trimming down for budgetary reasons.  Not for nothing, with the acting chops that Downey Jr brought over to Iron Man, it's understandable why Marvel wants to go after a reputable name like Pitt - they're gonna need someone who can act.  I personally loved Pitt's bad ass characterization of Achilles in Troy, so I think Pitt could pull off Thor.  Marvel is not going to be typical and go after the John Cenas, Chris Jerichos and Tyler Manes of the world.  That would be corny.

Could Brad Pitt, like Johnny Depp and Robert Downey Jr before him, be feeling the mid life urge to act in a movie for his children to enjoy now that he is a dotting dad?  Only time will tell, but first I think Marvel needs to lock down a director.

Stay tuned as more develops!

Iron Man Destroys the Competition at the Box Office With a Mind Blowing Weekend!

Box Office Mojo Reports that Iron Man has garnered over one hundred million dollers in its first four days at the U.S. box office! its total coming in at a scorching $100,750,000 is the best opening for a film since last May's "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" and marks one of the largest openings for a non-sequel movie since 2001's Spider-Man. Its something that never happens... or at least isint sapposed to!

Tracking had the film at a strong $70-$80 million weekend and most considered that to be out of reach for the man of iron. Now with it opening so large Paramount is already planning a sequel for May 2010 with rumors flying all over the internet about what it might be about. all I know is that Paramount is beyond happy with thier instant blockbuster of a film!

as a side not, Rottentomatoes.com reports that Iron Man is the best reviewed wide release of the year thus far! He has set the bar for this summer's films. lets see if anyone can leap ahead of it.

Marvel Mulls Over the Future

Hollywoodreporter.com reports...

"New YORK -- With "Iron Man" set to explode this weekend, the next question for Marvel is: What now?

One big variable is who does the distribution. When its financing deal was announced in summer 2005, Marvel said the deal "guarantees distribution for 10 films" through Paramount.

But that guarantee means the Melrose Avenue studio must distribute movies Marvel brings to it. For Marvel, the pact is simply a two-picture deal, with "Iron Man" the first and Marvel obligated only to distribute its next movie through Paramount. (Universal's "The Incredible Hulk" is exempt.)

An additional provision requires that movies based on "Captain America" and "Nick Fury" go through Paramount should they be made, with either film also counting toward the two-picture deal. Sequels of Par-distributed movies also will remain with the studio.

As a result, Marvel properties including "The Avengers," "Thor" and "Ant Man" could conceivably end up with other distributors.

Three years ago, the company wanted to stress the Paramount deal to show it had a pipeline; now, with "Iron Man" tracking well, Marvel aims to show Wall Street that the fledgling studio has flexibility.

Marvel also needs to convince investors it can deliver a steady stream of product. Despite a deep reservoir of characters, it only plans on releasing two titles per year.

"There's a lot riding on 'Iron Man' for Marvel because they don't have a lot of movies," director Jon Favreau said.

Marvel likely won't be releasing any movies in 2009, as the studio would have to be in pre-production now to make a summer date but isn't, mainly because of Hollywood's labor uncertainty.

"We're not going to risk our characters by rushing them," president of production Kevin Feige said. When asked about the timing of an 'Iron Man" sequel, he added that "two or three years is the proper time between movies." Favreau added, "I'd do number two in a heartbeat."

The studio's next project is expected to be announced on an earnings call Monday, with "Avengers," "Ant Man" and "Thor" the favorites. ("Captain America" is a prime property but is perceived as a tough sale overseas.)

Some question whether the Marvel characters waiting in the wings have the appeal of previously licensed characters like "Spider-Man" and "The X-Men." But Marvel president David Maisel said that the key ingredient to make a film successful isn't "more well-known or less well-known characters but tender-loving care."

The earnings call will prove an unusually direct referendum on Marvel. Most film studios get buried on a conglomerate balance sheet. But since the publisher-turned-studio will see much of its growth from movies, weekend grosses likely will make its stock price soar or fall, kind of like, well, a superhero."

sounds like they have alot going for them in the future...

Iron Man Huge World Wide!

HSX reports that Iron Man's Thursday previews were massive raking in an estimated $6 Million! in comparison to films like Spider-Man 3 and Pirates of the Caribbean which had well into the teens its small but compared to last years transformers which had right around $8 million its great! Transformers thursday showings were heavely promoted as Iron Man's were not. If they had pushed it more they could have gone far beyond that. Its a great start for a great movie!

World Wide Iron Man opened on April 30th and in that two days its racked in over $21 million dollers over seas! Again thats not on par with Spider-Man films but those were far more known then Iron Man is in most countries. Its a fantastic start and is looking to get right around $80-$100 million dollers over the next three days. if it opens strong enough here it could cross the $200 million mark by the end of the weekend. thats an astounding start for our tin man!

Iron Man 2 in 2010?

Superhero Hype reports...

 "Entertainment Tonight
attended the Iron Man premiere and got a chance to speak to Viacom and CBS Executive Chairman Sumner Redstone and Paramount Pictures CEO Brad Grey who said that if the movie does as well as expected, the studio will be looking to release the sequel in 2010.

What's interesting is that The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader has already "claimed" the first weekend of the summer that year (May 7, 2010), but if you look at the calendar, Iron Man 2 could easily open on April 30, which is a Friday, essentially giving it almost a similar release date as the first film.

Oh! And while press screenings did not have a certain scene after the credits, when Iron Man is released in theaters tonight, it IS expected to have it... so, be sure to stay after the credits!"

thats great news! Lets all hope Iron Man does well!
