Receiving ATCs are just as much fun as making and sending them out! Not only do you have cards to add to your collection, but you can learn so much from the different ways artists have used to create them. I don't think I've received any made the same way twice. The most recent set I've received came from Origami Grace. It was for a blind swap of 3/3. I loved them all. One of the cards was especially delightful. Grace created an origami heart, tied on a gold thread, then affixed this to the card as the centre point. Technorati Profile
Now that my 'secret partner' has received her ATC from me, I can reveal to you my very first hand drawn ATC. I was extremely nervous and unsure of my ability to do this drawing on such a small scale.
My eyesight has deteriorated so that I can no longer work in the true miniature scale. I used to make miniature porcelain dolls and dress them. No more.
I have to admit that once I started it was definitely not as difficult as I first thought. I ruled up my drawing page into boxes 2.5 x 3.5 inches. I began with very light pencil drawings. I started with the eyes and proportioned everything out f rom there. Obviously my method didn't allow me to include everything but even in larger sizes it is customary to just include the head and shoulders.
Have to say I'm very pleased with the way things turned out.
So if you are hesitant to try drawing yourself but have always wanted to try - GO FOR IT! So what if you toss a few pages into the 'bin'. Every artist dead or alive has tossed more than a few pages, especially in the beginning. STOP being your own worst critic and GRAB that pencil and any piece of paper you can get your hands on. Doodle and keep doodling.
Draw on Mate!!!
I decided it was time to try my hand at mini art pieces. For months now, I've been working in a larger size and then making mini prints. These are the first hand drawn mini originals. It was easier than I had at first thought it would be.
It was a matter of first sizing up the available space and then deciding what of my subject matter would fit. No different really from what I do with a larger space. Odd how we are sometimes our worst critic.
Here they are.
