Matt's Beer Notes

Hey.  My name is Matt.  I'm from Eastchester, New York, and I went to school at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey.  I live in Ithaca, New York now.  You probably know all that, since you're probably a friend of mine who came here through my AIM profile.  But this site isn't about me, it's about beer.  [Then why is there a sailboat on top, Matt?]  Because I know nothing about the internet.  Someone told me to use Freewebs for a quick and easy page and, well, they didn't have a beer template.  So I chose outdoors.  Enjoy the slab of wood under the page title.

Origin of the Beer Notes

So anyway, I really like beer.  I've come to drink quite a variety, so I began to rate them from 1 to 5 to keep track of what I'd like to buy again, as well as what I would never buy again.  A few months before this site, my friend Nick O. Potamus suggested jotting down notes about each brew with the ratings.  I began doing that, and then a couple of days ago I told my friend C-Money that I might put my notes online.  He agreed, and here they are.

About the Site

I've done away with dividing beers up by season, because there are so many different kinds of limited or seasonal beers out there that cannot be placed into a season. You can also now use the Best Beers link for some quick suggestions on the most delicious brews.

One final NOTEThese ratings reflect only my personal opinion; I'm an amateur enthusiast, not a critic.  I can't critique IPA's or oktoberfests, for example, because I don't like most of them.  As a result, the few IPA's you'll find are usually around the "2" rating.  These include, apparently, a couple of the best India pale ale's in the world.  My opinions of brews of other styles are shared to good extent.  I say all this to clarify that I don't care if someone thinks a beer is rated wrongly.  Anyway, in this site, 1 means bad, 2 means ok, but I probably wouldn't buy it again, 3 means good, 4 is awesome, and 5 is exceptional.

IPA's and marzens (oktoberfests) are not very well represented on this site. Pilsners are, but I find myself giving most of them a "2" rating.
