Matt's Autographs

**In-Person and Through the Mail**

Welcome to my webpage. My name is Matt and I live near Rochester, NY. I am a huge fan of the 26 - Time World Series Champion New York Yankees and of the Indianapolis Colts. This site is dedicated to the very exciting hobby of autograph collecting. It includes through the mail (TTM) requests, as well as in-person (IP) successes. Hopefully with the help of this site, as well as many other great ones, the autograph collecting hobby will continue to grow. Good Luck and Go Yankees!!

If you would like to see scans of anything in my collection, you can e-mail me at mattds_autographs@yahoo.com or request it in my Guestbook.

Pre-Game:

  • Terry Tiffee - 1/1 Baseball Card
  • Rich Thompson - 1/1 Baseball Card
  • Gary Majewski - 3/3 Baseball Cards (2 for Nate)
  • J.J. Furmaniak - 5/5 Baseball Cards (1 for Nate)
  • Jason Anderson - 1/1 Baseball Card
  • Gustavo Chacin - 0/3
  • Andy Tracy - 0/2
  • Paul Hoover - 0/3
  • Lou Marson - 0/2 (Signed on other side of dugout)

Miguel Cairo, Mike Cervenak, and David Newhan said they would sign after they stretched, but the usher made us leave ten minutes before the game started. He tried to tell me the game starts at 1:28 (it actually started at 1:35), but since he is always there, I didn't want to argue with him about it.

Post-Game:

  • Tommy Watkins - 1/1 Baseball Card
  • Danny Valencia - 1/1 Baseball Card (1 for AngelBerroa)
  • Kyle Kendrick - 7/6 (1 for Nate) ... He signed Jason Kirkman's (Team Trainer) team set card and told me to go ask him (Jason) to sign it as well. Supposedly, Jason flips out at Kyle because he continually does it to him, but I never saw Jason come out.
  • Miguel Cairo - 0/2
  • Carlos Carrasco - 0/6 (He and Miguel were just standing there waiting for a cab, but refused to sign)
  • Phil Humber - 0/2
  • Jesse Crain - 0/4
  • Kevin Mulvey - 0/5

Since it was the last game before the All-Star break, a lot of the guys had no desire to sign, had food in their hands, and/or family members with them.

Roy White was an autograph guest at the game. Even with the rain, there was a good number of people there to see him.

  • Roy White - 4/4 Cards

Pre-Game:

There was an hour or so rain delay, but it finally slowed enough to get the game in. All of the SWB relievers went into left field to play long toss. Melancon and Claggett were only signing cards when I got them (they had coffee in their other hand and I don't think they wanted to put it down to sign things like baseballs)

  • Josh Towers - 3/4 Cards (I think he might have missed the last one)
  • Mark Melancon - 1/3 Cards ("To Matt, Best Wishes! Mark Melancon")
  • Anthony Claggett - 3/3 Cards
  • Justin Leone - 3/3 Cards
  • Austin Jackson - 1/2 8x10s (I asked him to sign another for a friend, which was true, but he declined)
  • Colin Curtis - 0/1 (He was running by so I called him over. He looked at me, started walking over, and then signed a ball for a kid that had just run up along side me. I asked him to sign again, but he ignored me)
  • Scott Aldred - 0/2
  • Aaron Ledesma - 0/4
  • Romulo Sanchez - 0/1 (He said he had to go chart pitches... this was before the position players had come out to warm up)
  • Dustin Martin - 1/1 2009 RW Media Guide (Pre-Game Autograph Booth)

Charting:

  • Romulo Sanchez - 0/1 ("Later")

Post-Game:

I could not stay for post-game today.

Total: 16 Autographs (16 for me, 0 for a 50/50)

Derek Roy, the Buffalo Sabre, was an autograph guest at the game. He was extremely cool, but apparently not very good at throwing out first pitches .
  • Derek Roy - 4/4 Cards

Pre-Game:

  • Eric Duncan - 3/3 Cards
  • Shelley Duncan - 1/2 Cards
  • Jonathan Albaladejo - 3/3 Cards
  • Kevin Russo - 1/2 Cards

Jackson and Curtis also signed a few, but I was not one of them. Both of them passed over my stuff.

Charting:

  • Kei Igawa - 6/6 Cards (2 for Nate)

Post-Game:

  • Matt Macri - 4/4 Cards (1 for Nate)
  • Jason Pridie - 4/4 Cards

  • Stan Cliburn - 1/1 2009 RW Media Guide
  • Riccardo Ingram - 4/4 Cards (1 for Nate)
  • Tony Leo - 5/5 Cards (1 for Nate)
  • Jesse Crain - 0/4 (He had his daughter in his arms so I didn't bother)
  • Dave Miley - 2/5 Cards
  • Edwar Ramirez - 3/3 Cards (He had never seen his 2009 O-Pee-Chee card before so he spent a moment looking at it. Apparently, I missed Mitre during this.)
  • George Kontos - 3/3 Cards
  • PJ Pilittere - 2/2 Cards
  • Kevin Cash - 1/2 Cards (Was getting annoyed by the time I got to him)
  • Romulo Sanchez - 0/1 (Was on the phone and when I asked, he shook his head no and walked away from me toward the hotel)
  • Scott Aldred - 0/2 (He signed 2 or 3 and then got out of there with Miley)
Doug (dougvereecke of SportsGraphing.com) helped me out a lot post-game. I did not see some of the lesser known SWB guys last time they were here (a bunch weren't on the team then), so he helped me ID them. Thanks... it was greatly appreciated!!!!

IP - AUB @ BAT:

Last night was the season opener for the Batavia Muckdogs, Single A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals. It is always easy to graph here and the players are normally very willing to sign. I took close to 200 pictures of everyone in the game so I should have some more stuff to get signed next time. If anyone needs anything done, just let me know. The roster can be found here: Batavia Muckdogs: Roster: Roster.

They had the ring ceremony pre-game for the players remaining from last season's championship team. That was cool as I have never seen one before. The rings were nice... all the front office people were walking around with them on.

Pre-Game:

  • Niko Vasquez - 1/1 Card, 2/2 Custom Cards
  • Beau Riportella - 1/1 Card, 1/1 Custom Card
  • Jack Cawley - 1/1 Card
  • Xavier Scruggs - 1/1 Custom Card
  • Ryan Jackson - 2/2 Custom Cards
  • Devin Shepherd - 0/2 "Sorry man, I can't sign those" in reference to the custom cards. He was even reluctant to sign a program for a guy.

I also got a bunch of custom cards signed by the majority of the team for a 50/50 partner.

Post-Game:

  • Eric Eiland - 2/2 Cards
  • Markus Brisker - 1/1 Card

IP - DUR vs. ROC:

Harmon Killebrew was an autograph guest at the game tonight. My grandfather came with us, so I knew ahead of time that I wouldn't be able to stay for post-game. Due to the weather (it was raining fairly well here), we got to the game later than we usually do for autograph signings, resulting in me standing in line for almost two hours to get an autograph. That took up any pre-game opportunities, so I only came away with two autographs tonight. Howvere, those two were pretty sweet.

Autograph Signing:

  • Harmon Killebrew - 1/1 SS ROMLB, 1/1 8x10 Photo

IP - COL vs. BUF:

Today was my first game at a AAA park other than Rochester. It was nice, but it is hard to top Frontier Field. I also realized games are a lot more fun when you care who wins.

Darryl Strawberry was an autograph guest at the game. Buffalo has their signings during the game... I am used to Rochester having theirs pre-game.

Autograph Siging:

  • Darryl Strawberry - 1/1 ROMLB, 1/1 Baseball Card

Pre-Game:

  • Fernando Martinez - 3/3 Baseball Cards (1 for Nate)
  • Wily Mo Pena - 4/4 Baseball Cards (2 for Nate)
  • Argenis Reyes - 1/1 Baseball Card

Post-Game:

Most of the players exit through a loading dock in the outfield, but some supposedly out a side gate (which is actually a restaurant entrance).

  • Andy Cannizaro - 4/4 Baseball Cards
  • Andy Marte - 2/2 Baseball Custom Cards (1 for Nate)
  • Fernando Martinez - 1/1 8xx10 Photo
  • Kyle Snyder - 3/3 Baseball Cards (1 for Nate)

IP - CHR at ROC:

Doug Marrone, the SU Football Coach, was an autograph guest at the Red Wings game last night. I didn't have anything for him to sign, so I got my ticket stub and a giveaway poster autographed.

Autograph Signing:

  • Doug Marrone - 1/1 Poster, 1/1 Rochester Red Wings Ticket Stub

Pre-Game:

  • Chris Chambliss - 1/2 Cards
  • Richard Dotson - 4/4 Cards
  • Keith Ginter - 1/1 Card
  • Josh Kroeger - 1/1 Card
  • Michael Restovich - 1/1 Custom Card
  • Gary Ward - 1/1 Card (did not seem too pleased to be signing even though he was just standing in the dugout and I was the only one who needed him)

Post-Game:

I only stayed after to try to complete a 50/50, but of course the two guys I needed (Macri and Hughes) came out at the same time and ran to their car.

  • Matt Macri - 3/3 Cards (1 for a 50/50)
  • Anthony Swarzak - 1/1 Card

Darryl Talley Public Signing:

I headed over to a Darryl Talley signing about ten minutes from ym house. There were only about five people in line, so Darryl had time to talk to my dad and I for a few minutes. He seemed like a great guy.

  • Phil Hughes - 2/3 Cards

Some girl had a sign that read "Hank & Hal Bring Shelley Back!" Shelley enjoyed this and went over to sign it, but didn't sign much else. He even pointed it out to a few of his teammates during the game.

IP - SWB at ROC:

Pre-Game:

  • Alfredo Aceves - 1/1 Card
  • Justin Leone - 2/2 Cards
  • Austin Jackson - 3/3 Cards
  • Eric Duncan - 2/4 Cards
  • Kei Igawa - 3/3 Cards
  • Shelley Duncan - 1/3 Cards

Post-Game:

  • Luke Hughes - 4/4 Cards (2 for ncautos34)
  • Matt Tolbert - 2/4 Cards
  • Mike Gosling - 1/1 Card
  • Phil Hughes - 1/1 SS OMLB

Aceves pitched tonight, but decided to sign anyway pre-game. He signed for a good 5 minutes in the dugout, on his way to the bullpen, and then again on his way back. I thought that was pretty cool of him and not very common for starters to do before they pitch. He also seemed amused at my Scott Aldred cards (he pointed at them and laughed).

Phil Hughes came into the dugout a few minutes prior to the start of the game. Of course, everyone started to call him over, but Phil just sat there ignoring us. Justin Leone, who was signing along the third base line at the time, began yelling to him as well, but Phil didn't even look over. That was pretty amusing.

Post-game, a fence was set-up to keep the graphers away from the players as they went to the bus. Security was also there for the same reason. This is the only time I have experienced this in Rochester and don't know of any other time that it happened.

IP - SYR at ROC:

Baseball is finally here!! Not a great game for the Wings, but it was fun to be back at Frontier Field. There was a nice first pitch ceremony for Anthony DiPonzio, a Rochester Police Officer that was shot in the back of the head while responding to a call.

Pre-Game:

I got there late and with all the ceremonies, it didn't turn out too well.

  • Kory Castro - 1/1 Custom Card

Post-Game:

  • Alex Cintron - 1/1 Card
  • Pete Orr - 1/1 Card
  • Jordan Zimmermann - 1/1 Card
  • Ryan Wagner - 1/2 Cards
  • Corey Patterson - 1/3 Cards
  • Justin Maxwell - 3/3 Cards
  • Gustavo Molina - 1/1 Card
  • Ryan Langerhans - 3/3 Cards

  • Jason Bergmann - 3/3 Cards
  • Matt Tolbert - 1/1 Card
  • Drew Butera - 2/2 Cards
  • Jose Mijares - 2/2 Cards ("It is cold out here!"
  • Sean Henn - 4/4 Cards ("You guys are brave... it's pretty cold out here")
  • Tim Lahey - 1/1 Card
  • Trevor Plouffe - 3/3 Cards
  • Justin Huber - 3/3 Cards
  • Matt Macri - 1/1 8x10

Sean Henn came out and began to tell us a story about how he signed a baseball for a guy a few years ago when he was here as a visitor. Two days later, it ended up on Ebay and Sean decided not to sign in Rochester ever again. Now that he plays here, that plan is no longer in effect. He did say though that he remembers what the guy looks like that sold the ball and is waiting to see him again. I hope I am there... that could get interesting.

April 8, 2009

Tonight was the 81st Annual Rochester Red Wings Welcome Home Dinner. This is always a great event to get autographs and meet the "Twins of Tomorrow." Drew Butera was seated at our table and he is a great guy. We talked about catching a knuckle ball, playing against the Yankees in ST, the reality show that will be following them around this year (WXXI was there to film the dinner), his father playing in Toronto, and how Ken Griffey Jr. used to be his favorite player. One time in Toronto, his father took him into the dugout to meet Pinella. There were no fans in the stadium yet. Lou got ARod and a few other big names to come over. He then went to get Griffey. Ken looked a Drew, back at Lou, back at Drew and then walked off the field. For this reason, Drew said that he will always sign... he might not sign "15 things," but he will sign. Once again, he is a great guy.
