Something for next year s things to do list though I have no idea how much it will cost. I went down to the beach to think about some fishing but the tide was right out so it was no good trying to use a spinner as the hook kept getting caught in the seaweed. I got delivery of my new fly rod and the neighbour across the road who is a keen fisherman promised to help teach me how to set my fly rod up and use it. We went over there for dinner last week on Friday and he cooked a super curry. I took over a Sag Aloo which went down very well. We have to make a name for the house in seashells in a cement square and decide where to put it. There were lots of razor shells on the tombola, which my youngest diligently collected in her bucket. I also have to set the compost bin out some where and tie it down and weight it with bricks so the winds don t blow it away& .plus plan a garden plot and dig it up with the rotivator to prepare it for next spring. The toothfairy visited us last night as well as my son lost a tooth. So it was a quick note planted along with the correct sum (teeth are expensive these days) for recompense in his bedroom. Keeps the magic of childhood alive. My youngest is very artistic and loves painting when she visits Uncle M up at Brinna House. She will be getting a paint set for Christmas but she is very keen on getting a double bunk bed for her dolls and has it all planned out for them. She is very head strong (wonder who she gets that from) and knows exactly what she wants. The eldest wants to go trick a treating (this awful pervasive American nonsense that we seem to be invaded by) but unfortunately it falls on the rehearsal night forCHNKWKS 2TEXTTEXT FDPPFDPP$FDPCFDPC&FDPCFDPC(STSHSTSH*STSHSTSH*2SYIDSYIDP*SGP SGP d*INK INK h*BTEPPLC l*BTECPLC * FONTFONT*jSTRSPLC +:PRNTWNPRH+FFRAMFRAM/TITLTITL0DOP DOP (0"Shetland Diary The children are on two weeks holiday, Scottish system which is different to the English one, so it is a time to try and do some family things together. We drove to Weisdale Mill on Monday but it was closed which was a shame as it is a nice place in a beautiful setting and the caf serves splendid food which little creatures always appreciate. We then went to Hamnavoe, where we had almost bought a house but fortunately that fell through. It was very built up and not really what we had to come to Shetland for; to live in a quasi housing estate type area. There was no space and the houses were all close together. Three job interviews this week, which is exciting and I am hopeful of landing something out of one of them. I need to get some work to pay the bills after all. We went to Bigton Bingo this last Saturday night and when we opened the hall doors and entered the whole hall stop mid conversation and turned to stare. It was like one of the those classic film moments when the piano player stops playing mid piece. After all we are the new Southies and I suppose it was entertaining for every one! We triumphed anyway; my wife won a prize for completing a line and I won two prizes on the raffle. It was a good evening had by all. Then we walked home by torchlight and the full moon and a strong breeze. My eldest goes out riding a lot on her bike with her friend and Uncle M and Auntie K are going to buy her a new bike for Christmas and birthday which means her old bike will be spray painted a more manly colour for my son and the youngest daughter will get his bike. The roofers turned up this week to do the roof. The ridge tiles need replacing along with some missing roof tiles. We also need to get part of the house re harled (an up market pebble Handel s Messiah choral practice which she goes to with her aunt in Lerwick. That is far more rewarding to mind. So even though we live in a place of beauty we still have some strands of Americanisms invading our sanctity& . Our friends arrive from Medway in a week bearing gifts of pickled garlic, Angostura Bitters and Strawberry beer!
