I had been teaching ballet at Sandwick Junior High through the council for five weeks and finished that last week. The Active Leisure Co-ordinator for South Mainland came down to watch and my class of eleven little girls, all concentrated for once, and did very well. One of them gave me Christmas cracker and a card afterwards which was very sweet. I have also been teaching at Burra Public Hall for two classes this month and will start again in the New Year. I am also booked for ten weeks at the Weisdale and Whiteness Primary school and others want classes in Scalloway and Tingwall too so my time is going to be cut out for me. I have put together a business plan and an Advisor travelled down to Bigton to see me and help put it all together ie things like a three year cash flow forecast, all double Dutch to an old ballet dancer! So it all looks promising for 2007. A small bonus was received from the Council in the shape of a payment for some equal pay agreement for the Council s manual workers agreed by the unions and ACAS. Received with thanks and gratefully goes towards the overdraft!! I have also been getting down to basics by attending a life class as the model! My neighbour, the famous artist, teaches art there on Tuesdays during the winter months and asked me if I could do it. I was delighted at the chance to do some modelling again. One of the class went slightly pale when he heard that I would be modelling in a diamante jockstrap but fortunately it was all a windup. It was quite sitting on the floor posing whilst all these avid artists were concentrating on capturing my balletic and slightly less athletic form on paper; and there was not one tongue stuck out of the corner of the moutCHNKWKS >øÿÿÿÿTEXTTEXTŽ-FDPPFDPP0FDPCFDPC2STSHSTSH4STSHSTSH42SYIDSYIDP4SGP SGP d4INK INK h4BTEPPLC l4BTECPLC „4FONTFONTœ4<STRSPLC Ø4:PRNTWNPR5ðFRAMFRAM=ˆTITLTITLŠ=$DOP DOP ®="ainland came down to watch and my class of eleveDec 1 06 Shetland Diary We took a miss on the bingo this year at the hall so no repeat needed of the Wild West Saloon reaction from the locals, because they all know us now! There has been the usual social rounds and events going on. The weather has been abjectly miserable over the last few weeks with very strong gales and almost a non stop incessant flow of rain. Because the hours of daylight are fewer and it suddenly becomes darker it was necessary for me to go and meet the children off the bus with a torch. I collected our youngest off the bus step, because she is still a little small to jump off! This cloud, which hitherto I had thought was just a white cloud amongst the dark, descended on us with a violence and strength that was completely unexpected. It was hail with balls the size of peas which stung without mercy. I had to pick our youngest up, bags and all, and staggered blindly in the direction of our house, because the hail was really hurting us and she was slipping out of my arms, screaming with discomfort from the hail lashing her rather tender four year old skin. Luckily I was wearing my quilted boiler suit so did not get too wet but the children were drenched. Finally today the sky is a bit clearer and we have some sunlight which makes a change. Our first big event was on the first Sunday of December. We all went to church! St Magnus in Lerwick which is where our eldest sings in the choir. She was being officially welcomed in to the choir and given her surplice so we celebrated by going for a Chinese meal. John and his wife Helen, Aunty Kath and Uncle Mike came with us to share the occasion and then we went to the Golden Coach in Lerwick which does an all you can eat menu which is rather nice and certainly of a very high standard comparh to the best of my knowledge. We went to the Bigton Christmas Dance last Saturday and tripped the light fantastic. The Cullivoe band played and supper was bought out. I managed to step on my eldest foot and split her toenail so I was not flavour of the month for that! It was all good community fun though and nearly everyone from our area was there. The Gay Gordons, Boston Two Step and Eightsome Reel were all duly executed and we eventually got home. Our youngest danced the Children s The Grand Old Duke of York with her mum and thoroughly enjoyed herself. I went to see the youngest in her school nativity play; she played Mary and her friend Mason made a very nice lamb. She sat nicely on stage swaddled in a shawl and clutching a plastic doll and mouthed her way through Away in the Manger . I suspect she was singing but I couldn t hear her. Our eldest on the other hand I could hear clearly above the rest of the school play singing quite effortlessly. She was the first spirit of Christmas Gone in Scrooge and she was, if I say so myself, very good. She has her Choral concert tonight and is singing with the big girls and boys in St Columba s Church. Mother is going this time because I went last time and we remember what happened to me? (See May 1 06 back issue if you want to refresh your memory!!). Our son is playing his cornet solo in the school s musical assembly next week; he has been given a new cornet and is progressing incredibly well for all the reluctance at doing practice at home though when he does buckle down to it he is rather good and hopefully he will stick at it. Well Christmas is approaching us fast. I have two geese to collect and a ham to cook plus the cake to ice! I still have a side or two of smoked salmon in the freezer to use plus scallops. We have been told by someone that if we go to Somerfield about mid afternoon on Christmas Eve that they are literally giving turkeys away! Something else for the freezer, well they can t go to waste now can they? There is such a terrible waste at Christmas generally so my plea to all my readers is; please recycle your cards and paper. I know most people do but not everyone does& .. Happy Christmas to you all and all da best fa da Newerday! t foot and split her toenail so I was not flavour of the :< ˆŠbd>@l"n"X(Z(–*˜*//Š/Œ/Ž/üüôôôôôôôôôôôôôôôôôÌÌ(2‚"'(Š  Û)Û @·S ·:Š/Ž/îÞÔ " "PS" "ˆ¶" ä<ÿÿÿÿä< "ð” " ttŽ/0Ž/2(ä<Times New RomanÿÅ " " "¤øÃèðÐÐTTTTØðEPSON Stylus DX4800 Seriesœ<›€ê odÐÐ EPSON Stylus DX4800 SeriesDLLName32=E_FUICADE.DLL ÿÿ´€P@ TS_URLTSupportURL PSOLVER4š ÐÐ@HÐÐèðTTTTèðTTTTdÿ2 ,winspoolEPSON Stylus DX4800 SeriesUSB001Fÿÿÿ"\²"€‘"ÑV"$c"ð` "ð``""A."@ÿÿÿ"\²"ðù"ÑV"$c"ð` "ð``"."December 2006.wps""Øp"Øpp (" )"at home though when he dþÿ ÿÿÿÿ²Z¤ žÑ¤ÀO¹2ºQuill96 Story Group Classÿÿÿÿô9²qy¹2ºy¹2º)y¹2º¹2ºgy¹2ºn¹2º’y¹2º™¹2ºdy¹2ºl¹2ºÁy¹2ºÆ¹2º: y¹2ºB ¹2º{ y¹2º„ ¹2º‰ y¹2º‘ ¹2º y¹2º …¹2º3 y¹2º5 ¹2ºŒ y¹2º” ¹2º0y¹2º6¹2ºzy¹2º‚¹2ºjy¹2ºq¹2º‡y¹2º¹2º‚y¹2º‹¹2º7y¹2ºA…¹2ºy¹2º¯…¹2ºµy¹2º·…¹2º¸y¹2ºº¹2º»y¹2ºÃ¹2º§y¹2º¯""Øp
