The Story Behind Mega Man
Console Chapters 1 – 13
In the year 20xx AD,
Within the city of Monsteropolis, two highly esteemed robot technicians, Dr. Thomas Xavier Light and Dr. Albert W. Wily, were working on a new type of robot; they called it a humanoid robot, one that was the closest to a man up to date. After much hard work, they succeeded in a prototype.

With the Arm Cannons on his hands and justice and honor in his circuitry, Mega Man set out to stop the mad man. In the end, Mega Man prevailed, but Dr. Wily begged forgiveness. Mega Man believed all men could change their ways, so he held Wily to his word and let him go.
Dr. Wily was a crooked soul, though. He lied to gain his freedom, and realized Mega Man was a potential problem in his world domination plot. He had to be eliminated. Using the designs he and Dr. Light used, eight new robot masters were created.

Out of pure revenge, these robots were sent to destroy Mega Man. He proved too much for this batch of robot masters, and went for the doctor himself again. What he met up with was an alien that could be harmed by Bubble Lead; the Arm Cannon refilled its vitality to full strength. After destroying the alien hologram, Dr. Wily begs forgiveness again. This time he proves he is genuine… to an extent.
An alliance was formed between Dr. Light and Dr. Wily once again. They were willing to let bygones be bygones, although Dr. Light was still suspicious of Wily’s intentions, and build a peacekeeping robot named Gamma to prevent any violence breaking out again. However, elements from eight different locations were needed to complete their hard work. So eight robots were created and designed specifically to excavate them.

Mega Man was sent to find what the problem was and gather the elements already uncovered, but needed a mode of transportation. Instead of the Jet Sled from the previous adventure, Dr. Light had created an all-in-one robot-dog.

While dueling with each of the robot masters, a strange robot attacked him that seemed capable of what he was. This red and gray robot went by the name of Break Man. It never seemed like he was against him, but the Arm Cannon was real enough. When Break Man had enough, he teleported away, and created a path to allow Mega Man to continue, as if helping him.
When the now lethal robots were disposed of, it was learned Wily never intended to keep the partnership. He stole all of the elements and Gamma so he could finish Gamma alone. To buy time, he sent his latest creation to slow Mega Man while Gamma was made into the ultimate war robot.

This was obviously a mistake as Mega Man already faced off these powers. He did, however, make it to Wily too late by falling into a different trap. As Wily finished Gamma, Mega Man unknowingly faced off with a dummy Dr. Wily. Wily’s version of Gamma proved weak as Mega Man unmercifully destroyed the war machine. While Dr. Wily begged again, he failed to see the rock that crushed Wily as the place collapsed. Mega Man was also crushed, but was saved in time by a shadowed figure. It was too late for the corrupt doctor…
Dr. Light found Mega Man in his lab unconscious, and fixed his damaged circuits. While Light wondered who it was that helped Mega Man, a familiar whistle sounded. Light recognizes it as Proto Man, Mega Man’s long lost older brother. He and Dr. Wily must have made an alliance, but Proto Man felt his duty as a brother, even if a robot, to rescue Mega Man. Mega Man goes outside to contemplate… Is it really over? Is Wily gone? Where is Proto Man? As he thinks… above the tree… is that…?
Even if Wily died, it isn’t over. A year after Gamma’s fall, a new power, Dr. Sergi Cossack, is looking to make a name for him. He challenges Mega Man by mailing a letter telling of eight robot masters. Cossack dares him to stop these powerful creations.

Dr. Cossack had some very strong robots, so Dr. Light upgraded Mega Man’s Arm Cannon to the Mega Buster, which can be charged to many times its original power, to more even the battlefield. To further help Mega Man, Dr. Light created a robot to deliver power-ups to Mega Man.

When Mega Man foiled each robot master, as well as Cossack, Proto Man came between the two to stop the fight and released a girl. It was Kalinka Cossack, Dr. Cossack’s daughter. It was revealed Wily kidnapped her to make Cossack turn his creations to assault Mega Man. Now she was free and Cossack no longer had to work for evil. Dr. Wily then appears and yells that Proto Man has betrayed him, breaking the alliance. Dr. Wily would have to dispose of Mega Man by himself. The battle was not over.
After a long fight, including one where Wily hides in the shadows, waiting to attack, the Blue Bomber is victorious, but instead of begging, he escapes out a door and sets the lab to self-destruct. Mega Man has no choice; he can’t chase Wily. He needed to escape. Triumphant to a point, the hero returns home.
But evil rarely rests. Surprisingly, the form of evil was: Proto Man? Being with Wily must have done something to his programming. He and a band of eight new robots had kidnapped Dr. Light and started wreaking havoc everywhere they went.

Dr. Cossack, who was now helping Dr. Light, decided Mega Man would need extra help. He presented a robot to Mega Man that could scrap any robot, but still needed more work. Mega Man needed to find eight circuit panels marked with a letter, which would spell M E G A M A N V, to complete him.

Dark Man is vanquished, and the true culprit comes forth: Dr. Wily. This was an intricate plot to get revenge on Proto Man for betraying him last time. Mega Man has no alternative but to search out Wily and rescue Dr. Light.
When Wily is defeated and Dr. Light is rescued, Wily’s latest lab collapses. Wily escapes as Mega Man holds the ceiling from crushing Light. Proto Man saves them yet again by relieving him of the ceiling and making a way for them to escape.
<!--[if !vml]--><!--[endif]--> <!--[if !vml]-->
Time passes, and no sign of Wily has surfaced. Despite this, Mega Man saw the escape ship fly out, so he did survive. He had to remember this while at the First Annual Robot Tournament, since Wily could easily hijack any of the prized robots. It wasn’t Wily that did the stealing, but to Mega Man’s surprise, it was the sponsor, Mr. X. He revealed that he was manipulating Wily for a long time, but no longer needed him. This tournament was a trap to garner the strongest robots possible for Mr. X’s world domination plans. The eight were:

Mega Man rises to the challenge and puts an end to the doctor’s evil ways. Wily doesn’t flee, but begs forgiveness. Mega Man has learned from his past mistake, and ties up the evil scientist to be brought to justice. Wily finally got the recognition he wanted… although at the wrong time. He was front page in a prison cell on papers across the nation.
With Wily behind bars, Mega Man can rest a little easier. But Wily had planned for this. In his laboratory, he had four robots sealed in capsules that needed codes put in every so often to keep it that way. After six months without Dr. Wily doing so, the chambers were opened automatically and the four robots were free to seek their master.

When these four were in disposal, the truth came out: Bass and Treble were special numbered Dr. Wily robots! They were sent to gain Mega Man’s trust, gain access to Light’s lab, and steal the new plans for Rush’s Super Adapter. They had also trashed Dr. Light’s lab.

Now Bass would be even more powerful with the upgrade. Still, Wily had to be stopped at any cost. By the time he met up with Bass, the upgrade was complete and working. It was no easy task, but Mega Man came out victorious. Ever since that moment, Bass’s only goal in his life span was to prove he was superior to Mega Man and any other robot for that matter.
After a struggle with a supped-up version of Guts Man and the usual fight with Wily, the demented doctor came to reason. He had given up and was willing to apologize and go back to jail. But Mega Man was none too forgiving. He locked and charged his Mega Buster on Wily, ready to destroy him. Wily reminds Mega Man of the first natural law of robots: They cannot harm humans. Mega Man boldly announces that he is more than a robot, and readies to end the tormented fool’s life. A rumble shook a loose part of the ceiling, covering Wily to protect him temporarily. Treble comes to rescue his creator and Bass tells Mega Man they will meet again. Mega Man is forced to retreat the doomed castle, knowing Bass is right… the fight will drag on.
<!--[if !vml]-->
A new evil was speeding toward Earth. Fortunately, Earth’s savior from this unknown fiend was right behind it. Two meteors containing the two crash-landed on an island where Dr. Light had discovered them. He sent Roll to fetch Mega Man in order to investigate. Mega Man had to leave his duel with Bass, much to Bass’ annoyance. What he found were… familiar… robots? Wily! Light was not the only one to discover the intergalactic objects. Mega Man had a whole new fight on his hands.

The robot that would help Earth against this “evil energy” as it came to be known, Mega Man mistook for foe. The mysterious robot fled from Dr. Light’s lab, and Mega Man followed. As he goes to Skull Tower, Mega Man and Rush fall prey to one of Wily’s creations. Duo came to the rescue by removing its power source: the Alien energy. Duo also discovered that Wily Tower had a force field. Duo ordered Mega Man to eliminate the remaining Robot Masters while he tries to destroy the barrier.
With his minions done for, Wily was next to fall. Mega Man would not allow this Alien Energy fall into his hands, lest he misuse the mighty power… but he already had. Bass and Treble attack Mega Man, using the evil power as a crutch. The false energy proves to make no difference. Upon entrance to Wily’s quarters, Mega Man is ensnared in a power field. Just before Wily kills Mega Man, Duo smashes the cannon to pieces. Proto Man takes Duo to safety, and the doctor and machine duke it out again with the same results. As Mega Man was about to deal his justice upon Wily, a strange light engulfed the Blue Bomber. The Alien Energy had taken over Mega Man’s body!
Mega Man lie defeated, and who should discover him but Duo. Upon inspection, he concluded that the Alien Energy had taken him, but he possessed enough light within his mind that Duo was able to extract the evil. Proto Man finds the two and fears for his little brother, wanting to know if he will be all right. Duo tells Proto Man to take him to Dr. Light’s lab, as well as something else.
Waking up to a strong light and the faint voice of Roll, Mega Man regains consciousness, much to everyone’s delight. When asked how he got there, he was told that it was Duo’s doing, he being the one who saved his life.
Mega Man sits alongside Rush on a hill with thoughts of Duo echoing from within. A whistle interrupts this: Proto Man’s. He tells Mega Man what Duo had told him: Thank you. Mega Man looks out, saying: Me too… thank you, Duo…
Mega Man & Bass:
The next obstacle to interfere with humanity’s sanctity was even more than what Wily could handle. A self-proclaimed lord over all robots declared he had just taken over Wily’s laboratory and all humans shall fall to the knees of their superior robot counterparts. Dr. Wily and Dr. Light call another temporary truce as to dismount this King from his throne. Both Mega Man and Bass make an unlikely alliance to stop King’s insane dream from coming true.

Revived using data stolen from the museum
After using the enemy powers to destroy the barriers at the gate to King’s fortress, it was time to stop the crazed robot himself. After a small confrontation with King, Proto Man teleports in and destroys King’s Shield using the Big Bang Shot. After this, Proto Man overheats and collapses, leaving the two heroes to finish King.
When King is taken down, he teleports Proto Man out of the room so he may live. Then, before he is killed, he asks why defend humans. Mega Man says they can live in peace together. Bass thinks that it is that humans created them, and that is why. One question remains: Who built King? King murmurs: What if it was Wily? Just then, Wily appears via satellite and sees King has lost his will to fight. Wily boosts King’s brainwashing level and King is ready for another full blown attack!
When weakened again to the point that the fortress starts to collapse, Mega Man and Bass urge King to escape with them, but he assures them he will go only after they do. Upon exiting, King just sits there, not having a teleportation unit. He bids his adversaries a final goodbye, saying they could have been friends, all before being engulfed by flames.
Now they know Wily’s secret: He built King! Fighting through the Robot Masters a second time and defeating Dr. Wily, the heroes are victorious. No longer needing their alliance (nor wanting it, on Bass’ behalf), Mega Man and Bass go their separate ways.

All of his friends come to greet Mega Man, glad the threat to humans is over… but the Blue Bomber looks dejected. He turns toward the group and says that he wishes he could have saved King. Then Roll produces an envelope with a familiar seal. It was from King, saying he had survived, and was willing to defend justice. They might even meet again, someday.
Bass:
Bass confronts Wily, wanting to know why he deceived him. Wily trembles in fear, yet utters that he was merely testing him. Wily said he always believed Bass to be the mightiest robot ever, but when he failed to destroy Mega Man, Wily lost faith. Then he decided to create another robot, more powerful than any. Bass defeated King, reinforcing Wily’s faith. Bass does not believe the story, but Wily is not finished. He is using King’s combat memory to create King II. With King II and Bass together, they would be unstoppable. Bass thinks on this… until Proto Man destroys Wily’s main computer. Wily tells Bass to stop him, but Bass hesitates. Proto Man tells him the reason Mega Man always succeeds is because he fights for something he believes in. Bass says he has one… to destroy Mega Man!
Wily Tower:
Wily has constructed a tower of formidable size, challenging Mega Man to come get him. Mega Man must use a select number of assorted weapons from his first three adventures to tackle the mad man and his specially designed Genesis Unit.

Note: No weapons / items are obtained from any of the above.
With the three defeated, now comes the climb to the top of Wily Tower. Along the way, among many perilous robot fiends, Buster Rod· G comes back for a rematch. This time, it is during a free fall where he and Mega Man jump from floor fragment to another, giving the martial artist a huge advantage. Mega Man, though, proves Wily will never succeed, nor will his creations.
The fight against Wily took place in three phases: first Mega Man having to shoot its legs off; second to the face in order to detach Wily’s flying saucer; third against Wily himself. When Wily was forced out of the crashing UFO, a small red object rolls toward Mega Man. Mega Man does not know what it is… until it blows up. Wily had thrown a bomb. Wily laugh with glee, but Mega Man charged after him. Wily found out fast the bomb meant nothing and ran in terror… and tripped on a rock. Mega Man inches closer, not knowing what to expect. The UFO hovers over Dr. Wily and beams him up, allowing Wily to terrorize another day.
Mega Man’s Soccer:
The most bizarre of global domination schemes Wily has conceived yet: Rule the world through soccer. The crazed doctor (now we know how mad he really is) bombards the playing field of the World Cup Championship, and sends his robots out to… I don’t know, kick soccer balls at people? Dr. Light sees this on television and won’t let Wily get away with taking over his favorite sport, so he reprograms Mega Man to play soccer. Mega Man, as well as seven reserve Mega Men, set out to… win… the cup…?

Mega Man: The Power Battles
Dr. Wily is up to his old tricks again, but he has very heavy artillery at the tips of his fingers. Mega Man cannot do this alone. He will need the help of the mysterious Proto Man and the outspoken Bass to penetrate Wily’s rebuilt forces.

The threesome thrashed through each of the robot reincarnations, and now they reach their goal: Dr. Wily Fortress. A guardian (either the Yellow Devil for 1-6 or Van Pookin for 7) protected Wily as a bodyguard would, but they could not stop them. After all, Wily was the one to be stopped. When it was accomplished…
Mega Man:
Mega Man returns to Dr. Light’s lab, a little down that Wily escaped. He is coming to the realization that if time continues its current path; the war against Wily will never end. Dr. Light reasons with Mega Man, saying that in this battle, they have learned something about robots. About this time, Auto makes a stupid comment and is thusly ignored. Light continues by stating that the robots must determine the difference between right and wrong. He also states robots were never meant to harm humans (Wily said something similar to Mega Man at the end of Mega Man 7), and that their A.I. programs need more research. Mega Man is reassured that he must continue the battle against the one forcing robots to harm others.
Proto Man:
Proto Man escapes to his place of solitude. Little is said, little is revealed.
Bass:
Bass pulls Wily from the exploding laboratory. Of course, Wily is ticked off as anything, and demands to know why Bass fought against him. Bass wanted to prove that he was the strongest; that Wily did not need any of those other “junk robots.” Dr. Wily points out that Mega Man has defeated him, but Bass claims that he had underestimated Mega Man’s abilities, and next time would end differently. Wily seems indifferent towards Bass’ attitude, but does mention a robot being designed that will be more powerful than either could imagine. Bass does not believe that the doctor could build what he says, nor does he care, and leaves him there.
Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters
Wily is on the loose, wrecking havoc where he goes. Roll has been kidnapped, and the incident is roots back to Dr. Wily. One of Wily’s robots has also stolen parts from Dr. Light’s laboratory. Mega Man, Proto Man, Bass, and Duo will only have time to accept one mission. Depending on which they do, the four will meet up with a team from three of six Robot Masters.

The mission taken determined which guardian protected Wily: Mad Grinder (Search for Wily!), Yellow Devil (Rescue Roll!), or Mecha Dragon (Recover the New Parts!). They are but minions; it is Wily who has plotted behind all of this. The team must work together to put an end to the maniac’s evil deeds. When this is accomplished…
Mega Man:
Wily yells that there is no difference between the two of them. Mega Man wrought destruction upon his robots. Wily questions how this is to bring them peace if they are blown to kingdom come. Mega Man realizes all of what Dr. Wily said was true. Why could he not find another way? Was he truly becoming what he fought against? Roll approaches him and says to not listen to Wily; he is playing mind games. Auto reminds Mega Man they are always behind him (notice the “faithful” dog Rush is not present). Dr. Light adds that peace can sometimes only be achieved by destroying those that spread war. Mega Man is reassured that what he is doing is right, and thanks his friends. Wily calls it all a cheap show, thanks Mega Man for being an idiot, and leaves.
Proto Man:
Dr. Light gets a rare conversation with Proto Man, and asks about his condition, if he is feeling all right. Proto Man does not respond. Light says that it is okay that he not responds; he knows what he is suffering. Obviously, Proto Man’s energy system acquired a defect and if it is not fixed soon, something catastrophic can occur to Proto Man’s body… it may prove fatal. Only Dr. Light, his creator, is capable of fixing such a predicament. Proto Man refuses the help. He feels he does not need it, and he knows his body better than anyone else could. Proto Man also added he is unbeatable, no matter what. Dr. Light tries to coax him to stay but it is in vain. Proto Man is a robot of solitude. He feels he can do everything on his own. With that, he leaves Light desperately calling Proto Man to come back for repairs, but Proto Man is not about to do that. But what will happen when time catches up with the defiant robot?
Bass:
Wily explodes in his fury for Bass’ treachery, and demands and explanation. Bass responds that Wily always interferes; Bass can and will defeat Mega Man when the time comes (then tells Dr. Wily to “go crawl in a hole somewhere”). Wily slips out how he now regrets building Bass in the first place. Bass laughs at this and says that if he could create such a powerful robot as he, it was an accident. Ironically, that was it exactly. Dr. Wily reveals that as he tried to initially create Bass, it was as an exact copy of Mega Man. During his creation, the doctor developed a new energy source called “Bassnium” by accident, thus the name. At the time, it is believed to be the most powerful energy source on Earth. This is to be changed. Wily is working on a new robot much more powerful than Mega Man or Bass. It is still currently under construction and will not be finished for a while, but as we see in the future, it is a devastatingly strong robot. Bass does not believe it, as he calls it a girlie-looking, longhaired robot. Wily says with this, as well as another project he is working on, he will be able to take over the world unchallenged.

Duo:
Dr. Light thanks Duo for his deeds that averted Wily’s scheme. Duo remarks that he and Mega Man saved him once, and this was a way of showing gratitude for it. Duo also notices something unusual: The energy Wily had was similar to Duo’s, almost identical. This was more of the Alien Energy (Mega Man 8). Dr. Light never knew where this had come from, but Duo has just provided the solution. Duo wishes to complete his initial mission and return the Alien Energy to his home planet. Light asks if they will ever see him again. Duo smiles. Someday… I promise.
Note: Only differences will be noted for Team Play. For ones with similarities, the Solo Play ending most affiliated with it will be mentioned.
Mega Man & Proto Man:
(Similar to Mega Man’s ending)
Difference- After Light speaks his fill; Proto Man comments that Mega Man has a good soul (good circuits, maybe?), but tends to be naïve. He just needs to believe in himself.
Mega Man & Bass:
(Original)
After all the two had accomplished together, Bass wishes to oppose Mega Man in combat. Mega Man is anything but willing, saying that the two were severely damaged from battle. They may both very well die in one more against each other. Bass has confidence in himself and thinks only Mega Man will be destroyed. Mega Man restates that he has no desire to battle Bass. Bass says neither of them has a choice; it is written in destiny. Mega Man reluctantly gives in, and so the battle begins anew…
Mega Man & Duo:
(Similar to Duo’s ending)
Difference- After speaking to Light about the Alien Energy, Duo turns to Mega Man and says that Earth will be safe with Mega Man to protect it. Duo is also taking with him not only the Alien Energy but also some of Mega Man’s justice energy. The two promise to meet again someday.
Proto Man and Bass:
(Original)
Bass is still perplexed by Proto Man’s stand. Proto Man says he lives as he wishes; that is all. Bass is annoyed by his mysterious ways and promises to hunt down Proto Man after eradicating Mega Man. This does not bother Proto Man in the least; he knows Bass will never defeat Mega Man. Of course, Bass is outraged. Proto Man explains by saying that Bass only cares of petty goals, such as fighting to be the best. Mega Man, though, cares about the future of robots and humans. He questions Bass if he knows who or what the real battle is for.
Proto Man & Duo:
(Similar to Duo’s ending)
Difference- After speaking to Light about the Alien Energy, Duo turns to Proto Man, saying he will return home shortly. First, he would like to learn Proto Man’s relation between he and Mega Man, beings there is a sense of a strong bond between the two. Proto Man denies any relation, and states that he prefers solitude. Duo thinks the contrary. After the two talk for a while with single word conversation, Proto Man asks Duo to visit Earth again. Duo simply says he will think about it.
Bass & Duo:
(Similar to Duo’s ending)
Difference- After speaking to Light about the Alien Energy, Duo turns to Bass to bid him goodbye. Bass says not to talk; just leave. Duo knows there is good underneath the tough titanium skin, and comments he can feel the justice within Bass and to not suppress it. Bass has little neither care nor need for this; Bass only fights to fight. Duo thinks Bass as strange, but takes to liking him anyway. Bass takes this as a challenge, and tells Duo to train hard before he returns to Earth. Duo then says his final farewell for now to Bass.
Super Adventure Rock Man:
In a land known as Amazonia, a strange pyramid comes out of nowhere. As helicopters from the United Nations approach it, they are shot down. It seems impenetrable… until Dr. Wily manages to gain entrance.
Dr. Light and Mega Man are monitoring the situation at South America in the lab. When Roll enters, she falls limp. The two do not know what to make of it until Wily himself makes a public announcement that he is in control of all electronic equipment. Mega Man decides he must stop Wily before Roll dies. Teaming up with Rush, Beat, and the first six Robot Masters (DRN-03 to 08), they set out for Amazonia equipped with a gizmo to override the electronic scrambler planted in them by Dr. Light.
Dr. Wily was not at the pyramid for nothing. Inside was a super computer he had discovered while he was an ally with Dr. Light. The computer, called Ra Moon, fell from space thousands of years ago. Dr. Wily had downloaded data from his laptop, and Ra Moon recreated most of Wily’s Robot Masters (DWN-09 to 23). Mega Man was going to defeat a cache of robots in order to find Wily.

The prototype of humanoid robots
Upon entering the pyramid, Mega Man blacks out, and is taken prisoner. When he awoke, Mega Man was face to face with the mad scientist and Ra Moon. Dr. Wily unleashes his new robot, Ra Thor, and orders all his Robot Masters to execute Mega Man. Before they can finish the job, Ra Moon dismantles them. Ra Moon was just using Dr. Wily! Wily gets furious and orders Ra Thor to destroy the super computer. However, Ra Thor is under Ra Moon’s control, and Ra Thor attacks everyone else. Some of the Robot Masters free Mega Man, and Mega Man destroys Ra Thor. This was far from over, though. Ra Moon had a secret weapon as well, known as Ra Devil, a variation of Dr. Wily’s Yellow Devil. Mega Man knows things are getting bad when even Wily is encouraging him. Ra Devil falls to Mega Man, and Mega Man gets ready to destroy Ra Moon with both Mega Busters equipped. Dr. Wily warns Mega Man that this may have severe consequences on him, but Mega Man does it anyway, obliterating the super computer Ra Moon.
Mega Man was unconscious after the assault, but Ra Moon was destroyed and every electronic device began functioning as normal, including Roll. Rush and Beat wake Mega Man up and he finds Light’s Robot Masters and Proto Man waiting for him. During the celebration, Dr. Wily escapes in a flying device. Maybe he has not changed after all…

A war rages constantly between a man and a machine: Dr. Wily and Mega Man. Wily decided it was time to analyze his past mistakes to plan for his next assault. He decides that four of his robots may be able to destroy his adversary if new traps were planted. The four he selected were:

Wily had outdone himself. After breaking into the Chronos Institution, he escaped to the future in an experimental Time Skimmer. By Dr. Light’s calculations, Wily must have traveled 37.426 years into the future, and is most likely stealing newer and better technology to wreak havoc on the present day world. While in pursuit of the crooked scientist, four not-so-new Robot Maters attacked him. They were ordered to protect the passage into time by none other than Dr. Wily.

After their elimination, finding Wily was none too hard. However, it seemed Wily made it too obvious. Mega Man confronted Dr. Wily, but Mega Man was lured into a trap. The floor under his feet collapsed, and he fell into a teleportation room. Four capsules were within, each containing a different world and different Robot Masters.

With Quint’s defeat, Wily escapes to his space station. Mega Man races to confront the villain, and is met with three forms of a robot, all controlled by Dr. Wily. After defeat, though, Mega Man steals Wily’s ability and uses it against him as Wily flees. His escape shuttle explodes and crashes to Earth. The threat from the future was over.
After so many failed attempts to defeat his nemesis, Dr. Wily begins to wonder how he would be able to overcome Mega Man. This leads Wily on a hunt for a better and more abundant energy source in the middle of an ocean: oil. With this, not only could Wily more efficiently power his robots, but sell the rest for practically a fortune so he can build more robots. Mega Man must see to it that Wily never completes his newest scheme. First, however, Mega Man must eliminate four Robot Masters of the past to get to Wily.

While the fortress sinks, Wily escapes to a pod that ends up crashing into the ocean with his creations.
It is the First Annual Robot Master Exposition, with many of the former Robot Masters in display cases. But where Robot Masters are, Wily is sure to be there. Using a remote device, he reactivates four Robot Masters to wreak havoc upon selected cities. It is once again up to Mega Man to stop the fiend, this time with the help of Dr. Light’s Item Replicator, powered by P-chips.

This time, Mega Man gets his hands on the powerful Ballade Cracker. He must escape the crumbling castle using his newest weapon to blast objects blocking the path. Once outside, Mega Man learns that Dr. Wily had escaped to his space fort. Dr. Light reprograms Rush so he is compatible with space travel. Both companions enter Wily’s fortress. Wily is well prepared with traps and a room where the only escape appears after the eight Robot Masters are once again destroyed. Then appeared Wily’s newest robot: a giant mecha-Wily. Utilizing the Ballade Cracker, Wily is beat, but not entirely defeated. He escapes using an extendable device in his backpack, which raises a question for Mega Man: How do I get out of here? The fortress is too isolated to teleport back to Earth, and no visible hatches to let Rush shuttle him home. This leads to only one possibility: make an exit! Many walls are prone to the Mega Buster, but the outer wall is too strong. Ballade appears at the wall, though badly injured from the fight. He realized that his ways were wrong, and came to make amends with Mega Man. Ballade sacrifices his life to destroy the reinforced wall for Mega Man, allowing his escape. Maybe Wily finally created something for the good side.
Mega Man would soon find that his next opponent would be more powerful than any he ever encountered. While walking with Roll, a new challenger threatens Mega Man. He was created from an extraterrestrial metal, so he was known as a Stardroid. The Stardroid, named Terra, was only one of many. When Mega Man tries to use his Mega Buster, it simply deflected off. Mega Man realized this would be a problem, so he went to Dr. Light’s laboratory to search for a solution. Dr. Light created the state of the art Mega Arm. The Mega Arm was several times more powerful than the Mega Buster, giving Mega Man the edge he needed against the Stardroids.
Dr. Light also created another device to aid Mega Man, called Tango, an attack cat.

All the Stardroids are defeated and Mega Man is victorious… but it is not the end. Mega Man spots a Skull Star, leading him to one conclusion: Wily was behind this plot the whole time! What’s worst is that he is firing lasers at certain points on Earth. Dr. Light quickly converts Rush into a space mobile, allowing Mega Man to travel to the Skull Star. He disables the external weaponry and gains access to the inside. What he finds is not only the last eight Stardroids, but also four familiar lethal robots.

Now Mega Man can face Wily. With two meager robot creations, Dr. Wily tries to out-duel Mega Man, but fails. However, Wily still has an ace up his sleeves. He unveils an ancient doomsday robot to destroy Mega Man. The robot takes orders from no one. He proves it by demolishing Wily’s space ship while Wily is still inside. Then the final battle with Mega Man begins.

An ancient robot excavated by Dr. Wily; started a war for the universe
Before SunStar is defeated, SunStar halts. His arm broke, and to his surprise, Mega Man tries to help him. This puzzles SunStar. He always thought robots were no more than ruthless war machines. Mega Man disagrees to this, saying he personally is only forced to fight when necessary. SunStar does not fully understand, but it does not matter. SunStar tells Mega Man that his fusion reactor is going critical and will destroy the Skull Star and all inside. Mega Man is hesitant, but he knows he cannot save SunStar. Mega Man escapes via Rush with enough time to look over his shoulder and see the Skull Star explode.
Back on Earth, Mega Man reflects on SunStar. As he walks of, he is met with Dr. Wily, who seems to have survived SunStar’s attack. When Wily tries to shoot down Mega Man, the damaged ship takes its toll, and ends up self-destructing. Wily slowly gets to his feet and runs as fast as he can. Mega Man just stares on for a little, and then pursues Wily as he always has and will… until the “war” is over.
