- Marvel/AAFES Military Specials

This is a spotlight on the series of comic books published by Marvel Comics especially for the U.S. Military.  Each issue is a one-shot special and takes place outside of the regular Marvel Universe continuity.  The series is distributed free to service men and women exclusively through AAFES (Army & Air Force Exchange Services) stores on military installations world-wide.  These comics are intended as a special "thank you" to the men and women of the U.S. Military from Marvel Comics, and, as such, they are usually not advertised to the general public.  This web page is intended to provide information about these elusive comics, and to say "thank you" to Marvel for their support.

According to Bob Sabouni, Marvel's vice president of business development, Marvel Comics started this series of military exclusives in 2005 after getting a call from a young boy, saying he could no longer afford to send comics to his two brothers serving in Iraq.  Marvel sent the boy a box of comics but wanted to do more, so the company started working with AAFES to develop something just for Soldiers. The military series has been very popular, with books disappearing rapidly after their release.
