AIM

1) To further explore multi-disciplinary language education in international classrooms using experiential, discovery, and collaborative learning approaches. Areas of interest include creative writing, blogging, and email exchange; learner development and autonomy; project-based learning approaches; expressive and creative arts in language learning; second language identities; counseling skills for educators and teaching counseling interview skills as a method for language learning; and student-centered assessment.

 

2) To examine the global cultures of scent through the creation of a multi-lingual and multi-disciplinary online magazine; to edit and oversee the writing of an international staff of writers; to examine how we use language as a form of expression and translation of sensory experiences.

 

3) To develop a personal philosophy of global communication a) examining how we write, speak, learn, and communicate while b) experiencing/exploring other cultures via language studies and acquisition, travel, and living/working abroad and c) using these experiences as both teacher and learner; to combine my background in psychology, counseling, web technology, language education, and human development to create a multi-disciplinary approach to TESOL pedagogy and a multi-lingual online magazine.

  • Assistant Trainer: Supervised a team of six international teachers. Evaluated teachers, created alternative curricula, counseled students and ensured quality education.
  • Responsible for increase in student enrollment and increase in participation in special programs.
  • Instructor: Taught both pre-planned and original multi-level English language curriculum and TOEIC/ TOEFL preparation to students (ages 3 to 80). Created innovative lessons using music and art to aid self-expression and application of language skills. Created and implemented skills assessment tool for use by instructors to monitor student progress.
