About This Site
This is the recreation of boxing history starting on January 1st, 1930. Heavyweight Champion Gene Tunney announced his retirement several days after successfully defending his title against Tom Heeney on July 26th, 1928...and the title has remained vacant ever since. Jimmy Slattery is Light-Heavyweight Champion and "The Toy Bulldog" Mickey Walker is the King of the middleweights. That's how things were in the world of professional boxing on January 1st, 1930. However, some things will be different in this "alternate" boxing universe. For example, 34 year old former heavyweight champion Jack Dempsey, who has not entered the ring since losing to Tunney back in 1927, is contemplating making a comeback. "The King of the Canebrakes" Young Stribling will not die in a tragic motorcycle accident. Joe Louis is still 4 years away from making his professional debut. Where will his boxing career take him in this "alternate" universe?
A great software program called "Title Bout Championship Boxing" will be used to simulate all the fights in this "alternate" boxing universe. I have carefully and exhaustively researched over 400 fighters who were active on January 1st, 1930 to provide the highest level of accuracy as possible in their ratings for the head-to-head matchups in the ring. I have also "tweaked" some of the ratings for fighters who were already included in the simulation to better reflect their abilities at this stage in their careers. Every fighter will be starting off with his actual professional record as of January 1st, 1930. As the "sim" years go by, old fighters will retire and new prospects will enter the scene. 1930 represented a time when being the Champion of the World was to possess the greatest title on earth. Fighters demanded a higher level of respect back then...it was a time When They Were Kings.
