Between 90 degree weather and rain, I have only been able to ride my bike to work about half the time so far this summer. After the first day, when I got home with a touch of heat exhaustion, my new rule became "No riding if the temperature is above 85 or there is high humidity". This week so far I only rode on Tuesday, and will probably not be able to ride again tomorrow. Not due to the heat this week, but the rain. We have had a lot of rain this week; today, it has rained nearly all day - and hard! They even had to close part of the Thruway due to flooding, not to mention the several local streets that have flooded. The rain is expected to continue through tomorrow. Fortunately, Friday, my day off from summer school, is supposed to be nice. Of course, I will be sleeping late that day after having gone to see the new X Files movie tomorrow night at midnight. I can't wait!!!
(For those of you who don't know, the title of my post comes from a song by the Flobots called "Handlebars".)So today was the first day of summer school and I rode my bike to and from work today for the first time. It's only 1.7 miles each way, so it only takes about 15 minutes to get there. Getting there, however, is the easy part; there are slight uphills at the very beginning and very end, and in between it is downhill, or flat, all the way. That means, of course, that coming home as the day starts to heat up is a lot harder. I drank a lot of water, but I was still pretty wiped out by the time I got home. Hopefully each day it will get easier.Summer school itself is pretty easy. 8:30 to 11:30 four mornings a week, for 6 weeks. I am hoping that by the end of the summer session, I will be in better shape. Maybe I'll even lose a few pounds!
I've added a few videos of our new kittens. I posted these mostly for Nate, who is away at school and hasn't met Kirk and Spock yet. I'm hoping he'll enjoy the videos until he gets home at the end of the month and can meet his new "brothers".
