- CS 1.6 & Down Bot Installation Tutorial (PODbot v2.6mm & Metamod) (Last Updated Sept 13, 2004)

Heyyo,

Ok-dokie, (lol, ahh Mr. Lecter... ) here we go.

Since WON is shut down, I've decided to focus this tutorial for CS 1.6. You can still play CS 1.5 though without WON! yes! go here to find the files n' how to set it up: http://www.no-won.net/ You can still do this tutorial for CS 1.5, just change the directory to wherever you want. Here are the default CS 1.5 directories:

Now, first off, you'll need to figure out if you have either CS: The Retail Edition, or HL MOD Edition. The differences are that the Retail Edition, you don't need HL to play it, it's stand alone, and the HL MOD Edition requires that you have HL, or someother stand alone HL MOD to be able to play CS.

The default installation directory of CS 1.5 Retail Edition is:

C:\Sierra\Counter-Strike\Cstrike\

While the Defaul istallation directory of CS 1.5 MOD edition is:

C:\Sierra\Half-Life\Cstrike\

This tutorial will use the default CS 1.6 Retail Edition, so if you wanna do this tutorial using CS 1.5 & down, just change what I write down to the HL RETAIL/MOD Edition directory, or if you installed it somewhere else, just remember where the Cstrike directory is, cause that's where we'll do all the bot, and mod adding from.

Also, for linux, it should be the same default installation directory. I'm not sure the names for the .so files, so if I'm wrong just make then changes yourself, and e-mail me at jagged_jimmy_j@hotmail.com so that I can correct these faults on my tutorials...

First off, download PODbot v2.6mm R2.1, and then the latest beta (as of Sept 13, 2004 it's R2.43 I believe...) and then the latest version of metamod (it should be v1.17.2 or something like that... can't remember.. lol, it's not unusual if I'm not certain, I just know main facts and forget the minor details.)

So, after installing CS, you should upgrade your version of CS BEFORE installing bots, or you'll probably have to redo the liblist.gam file, infact, just back up your liblist.gam file right now just to be safe.

We'll be installing metamod first, so, create a folder called "Addons" in your "Cstrike" directory, and inside there, create the folder "metamod" and inside the "metamod" folder, create a folder called "dlls". Now inside the "dlls" folder, put your metamod.dll in there, so it should be "C:\Program Files\Steam\Steamapps\*Insert your E-Mail Address here*\Counter-Strike\Cstrike\Addons\Metamod\dlls\metamod.dll". If not, try again.

Now open up notepad, or someother word processing program, notepad will do fine, and add these lines to a new blank document:

// PODbot v2.6mm
win32 addons\podbot\podbot_mm.dll
linux addons/podbot/podbot_mm_i386.so

Now save this new blank document as "plugins.ini" in your "C:\Program Files\Steam\Steamapps\*Insert your E-Mail Address here*\Counter-Strike\Cstrike\Addons\Metamod" folder.

Now, the last full release (As of Sept 13, 2004) of PODbot v2.6mm is R2.1. It should be inna zip archive, so just make sure you have "extract folder names" selected (if you're using winzip, or anyother archive program) and just extract it into "C:\Program Files\Steam\Steamapps\*Insert your E-Mail Address here*\Counter-Strike\Cstrike\".

Now open up your latest beta version of PODbot v2.6mm and extract it into "C:\Program Files\Steam\Steamapps\*Insert your E-Mail Address here*\Counter-Strike\Cstrike\Addons\PODbot" and if it asks to replace a "podbot.dll" that's a good sign, cause it means PODbot's installed correctly. If not, try installing PODbot v2.6mm R2.1 again.

Ok, now the final step: editing the "liblist.gam" file... So go into your "C:\Program Files\Steam\Steamapps\*Insert your E-Mail Address here*\Counter-Strike\Cstrike\" folder, and open up the file called "liblist.gam" with a word processing program, like notepad, and then scroll to the bottom where it says lines like:

gamedll "dlls\mp.dll"
gamedll_linux "dlls/mp_i386.so"

and add numberand (#) sings infront of them, and add the following 2 lines shown, so it should look like this:

#gamedll "dlls\mp.dll"
#gamedll_linux "dlls/mp_i386.so"
gamedll "addons\metamod\dlls\metamod.dll"
gamedll_linux "addons/metamod/dlls/metamod_i386.so"

Ok, if you're using CS 1.5, make a shortcut and add "-developer" after it in the target line. If you dunno how to do this, I'll give a small tutorial on how. Ok, go into your CS 1.5 directory, n' look for a file called "cstrike.exe" hold right-click onnit, n' drag it somewhere, for example the desktop, n' release the right-click button, a menu comes up, select "create shortucts here." And then, right-click that shortcut, n' go "properties." Now, in the "target line," scroll as far as you can to the right, n' add this: -developer

After that? it should work. If you have CS 1.4 & down, I don't think the -developer will work, you'll have to either upgrade to CS 1.5, or instead of -developer put: -console
...The prob with that one is that sometimes a big black box appears over the top-right of the screen... So what you can do to get rid of that is make another shortcut n' add infront in the target line: -windowed -console          ... And then start a LAN game, n' then exit, n' open up a cs shortcut with no target line parameters (so no -windowed -console... etc..), and then the console should work even without the target line parameters!

Now? just start up CS, n' go: Play CS > LAN Game > Create Game > *set the max_players to how many players total (humans & bots) to whatever you want, most maps support a max of 20, but the rare big ones go to 32* > OK

If it says stuff like "can't find dll metamod.dll" then metamod's not installed correctly, try this tutorial from the top again..

If it says that a model's integiry or something like that is bad, then a custom CS model you installed isin't good, try installing another one, or delete it to make the game load the default model.

Now, a couple bots should be added (by default 7) and if not, try hitting the "=" and the "P" button, one of them should bring up the PODbot menu.. If not, open the console with the Tilda key (~) and if it says "unkown command podbotmenu", try typing "pb addbot" if it says "unknown command pb addbot"  PODbot isin't installed right, and try again from the top.

If bots are added? then frag away my friend! Remember that podbotmenu button, as it's important for managing the bot. BTW, you can play with bots with other people online, or on LAN, one persopn creates, and the others join, or everyone just joins a server already up n' going.

Next, I will have a tutorial on how to add YAPB with your PODbot v2.6mm to add a little variety to your CS game.

ENJOY!

Later-A-Much, and LONG LIVE THE D!
