Our Presidential nominee John Kerry asked this of the government in 1972, and we join him in asking it again in 2004.
Where are they? They are in Washington, Austin, and across the country sending our troops into war alone, shattering alliances with important foreign allies, letting our economy drop to record lows, letting our college tuition rise, under funding public education for children, gerrymandering along socioeconomic and racial lines, denying women the right to choose, and restricting civil rights of all kinds to its citizens.
This is where they are. And we want them gone.
This will be the most pivotal election in modern American History because we will be able to challenge the regressive Republican party with the ideal our country was founded upon: democracy.
Here at the University of Texas we are in a unique position to show the country that our generation cares and is committed to building the Democratic Party through the expansion of democratic action. On a campus that educates more than 50,000 people there is no reason for us not to be the most active and influential College Democratic Club in the country. We should devote ourselves to expanding and strengthening our organization, not only to build a better club or better party, but to build a better country. Change has to start somewhere, why not with us?
My devotion to this cause is why I have decided to run for president, and why I feel am the best candidate to lead us into the elections. Election 2004 is not going to be just about me, its about you too, its about all of us working together and that's why I need your support now. I plan on working with members to structure the 2004 semester in a way that will unify our message, support our Democratic candidates locally and nationally, recruit more members, and make it clear to everyone that we demand change.
